Week 9: vs New Orleans Saints
Mark and Joe say: Good matchup. This should be a fun NFC South shootout between two rivals, though neither team has been at their best for the majority of the season.
The Panthers didn't score any TDs against the Seahawks, so their fantasy points weren't very exciting unless you own Graham Gano (three field goals vs. Seattle). Cam Newton threw 12/22 for 171 yards passing, zero TDs and one interception - he still fed Kelvin Benjamin (seven targets for 4/94/0) but otherwise the next-highest receiver last weekend was Jerricho Cotchery (five for 3/33/0 receiving). We'll see if Newton can bounce back this weekend - against the Saints' secondary, he has a good shot at improvement.
The New Orleans pass D allowed 29/40 for 402 net yards, one TD and two interceptions to Green Bay last weekend (four sacks taken for -24 yards) one week after surrendering 27/40 for 285 net yards, two TDs and two interceptions, with three sacks taken for -14 yards to Matthew Stafford and company. New Orleans averages 289.3 net passing yards allowed per game (31st in the NFL), with 12 passing scores handed out vs. five interceptions (tied for 20th in the NFL) and 13 sacks (tied-21st) generated to date. This is one of the league's weaker pass defenses, friends.
