Week 5: at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

All WR vs TB

Mark and Joe say: Neutral matchup. Blake Bortles has quietly amassed 85/156 for 996 yards passing, six passing TDs vs. three interceptions thrown, and 13/91/0 rushing over the first 1/4 of the season. He's not Brett Favre in Favre's prime, but Bortles has improved greatly over last year's version. At Indianapolis last week Bortles slung 28/50 for 298 yards passing, with one TD and zero interceptions. His favorite targets are Allen Robinson (39 targets for 15/330/2 receiving) and Allen Hurns (30 for 22/314/2) while the team awaits the return of free agent import Julius Thomas (hand/finger injury, been out since before the start of the season - he may not get back until Week Six). The Jaguars' offense is respectable turning the corner into the second 1/4 of the year. The Buccaneers' pass D is ranked second in the NFL averaging 185.5 net passing yards allowed per game, but they have coughed up eight passing scores (an average of two per game) and only generated two interceptions to date (tied for 21st in the NFL). Last week, Tampa allowed the expected two scores to Cam Newton (11/22 for 111 net yards passing, two TDs and zero interceptions thrown), while two games back Ryan Mallett threw 24/39 for 227 net yards passing, one TD and one interception against the Buccaneers. Two so-so units clash in this one - neither has a clear edge over the other for this Battle of Florida.
