Week 7: vs New Orleans Saints
All RB vs NO
FBG says: Tough matchup. The Packers offensive line just can't seem to catch a break this season. Last week was the first time all season that they finally had their starting group together, but the trio of Bryan Bulaga, David Bakhtiari, and Lane Taylor all exited Sunday's game with injuries. Bulaga is going through the concussion protocol, while Bakhtiari's status is in question as he re-aggravated the hamstring injury that sidelined him for the past four games. Lane Taylor had to be carted off with what looked to be a more serious knee injury, but his status has yet to be reported on as of Tuesday. With all of these injuries at hand, they predictably struggled in a tough matchup against the Vikings last week as the duo or Aaron Jones and Ty Montgomery only managed to average three yards per carry for 69 yards between the pair. Neither running back ran for more than nine yards on a single play. Aaron Jones out-snapped Montgomery 43 to 20 as Jones led the share on the ground with 13 carries to Montgomery's 10. The situation was tough in general for the Packers running backs due to the Aaron Rodgers injury though, as the Vikings proceeded to stack the box with Hundley passing the ball. With Rodgers now out, it is reasonable to expect that the Packers should lean harder than ever on their running game for the remainder of the season.
The Saints rushing defense has been serviceable this season, allowing only 100.8 rushing yards per game and only one rushing touchdown to opposing running backs. Last week was a success as they held the Lions to only 66 rushing yards, however, that was a very pass-heavy game for the Lions as they were in catch-up mode for virtually the entire game. Cameron Jordan continued his great season with a big performance last week, while linebacker Craig Robertson looked much improved in run defense against the Lions. While the Saints still have a few weak spots on defense, this unit overall has played much better in recent weeks. This matchup is highly dependent on the health of Green Bay's offensive line. If they are missing all three linemen that were hurt last week, the Packers running backs should have a very tough day.
