Week 3: vs Cincinnati Bengals
All RB vs CIN
FBG says: Neutral matchup. The Packers managed only 59 combined rushing yards last week in a game that did not set up well at all for running the ball. Ty Montgomery is the clear lead back here as he has played nearly 88% of the Packers' snaps this season, but he really has struggled to rush the ball with only 3.1 yards per carry. Montgomery sports a career average yards per carry of 5.1, so he has shown the capability of making plays on the ground. He has a decent offensive line to run behind, and this week, the game script should be much friendlier to Montgomery from a rushing perspective as the Packers are favored by nine points at home.
The Bengals defensive as a whole has played quite well despite their offensive woes this season. The sheer volume of rushes against them, as a result of the game script, has forced some less than favorable stats for this rushing defense. Last week, a chunk run of 49 yards by Deshawn Watson really padded Houston's 168 total rushing yards. The Bengals actually held Houston's running backs to only 101 yards on a whopping 30 carries--good for just over 3.3 yards per attempt. Geno Atkins has been a force on the interior of the Bengals defensive line both against the run and pass, while defensive end Carlos Dunlap has helped significantly in making plays on the left side of that line. Game flow is projected to be in the Packers favor here, but if the Bengals can sustain a few drives to give their defense a rest, this should be a fairly even matchup.
