Recent Game Summaries

2018 Week 18 vs DAL (6 / 3 / 32 / 0 rec - 4.7 points, $0)

Baldwin had a poor overall game, mainly due to limited targets... which was due to a run heavy game plan, not any conspiracy to look away from him. In the first half, he missed a low throw, and had a chance on what could have been a 27-yard score, but couldn't quite track the ball as it came to him in the end zone. He redeemed himself for that miss, when in the 3rd quarter he came up big on 4th down, making a simply amazing catch near the sideline to keep the drive going and set up the ensuing touchdown. It was as much of a clutch play as you'll see in the playoffs. Baldwin has had an off year, as he started the season with an injury. Late in the season, we started to see the "real" Doug Baldwin, who makes that kind of clutch play look easy -- which will hopefully be the version of him that we get to when the next season starts.

2018 Week 17 vs ARI (5 / 2 / 27 / 0 rec - 3.7 points, $6700)

Early in the game, Baldwin moved the chains with his two receptions, and seemed as reliable as ever. But later in the game, he disappointed with a couple of uncharacteristic drops, on his way to a pedestrian showing.

2018 Week 16 vs KC (12 / 7 / 126 / 1 rec - 22.1 points, $0)

Baldwin had the kind of game that could fill this page. He is once again Russell Wilson's clear number one, as evidenced by being targeted on nearly half (44%) of Russell Wilson's passes. As if there was any doubt, it would appear that the Baldwin of old, is indeed, back. On each reception, Baldwin beat his man, plain and simple. The Chiefs were covering him fairly well, but it wasn't enough to stop him. This was never more apparent than on his deep sideline catch, in which he was quite covered yet still made it look easy, as he pulled in the ball and managed to dive to the goal line pylon for the score, while still in bounds. Oh, and also, he wasn't done yet. Late in the game, he caught another highlight reel catch, reaching out with his fingertips and pulling the ball in as he was pulled down at the one-yard line.

2018 Week 15 vs SF (6 / 4 / 77 / 2 rec - 21.7 points, $6200)

After sitting last week out with an injury, Baldwin came back with a score on the first drive, on a nicely timed fade pattern from six yards out. Despite a little rust, the rapport was still there with Russell Wilson, who placed the ball perfectly on his fingertips in the back corner of the end zone. He also looked good on a low, diving catch over the middle. And later in the half, Baldwin seemed rejuvenated - almost his old self - as he found a pocket in the zone downfield, caught the ball cleanly, and then outmaneuvered three close defenders before extending the ball as he flew over the goal line in mid-air.

2018 Week 13 vs SF (4 / 2 / 22 / 1 rec - 9.2 points, $6200)

Baldwin first drew a pass interference call as he was targeted in the end zone; then, a few plays later, got the ball on a simple flats pattern that found him wide open for the short TD. He had a chance for extra yards on a catch up the middle, but wasn't able to find enough open field. It was a low volume day for all Seahawks receivers, but Baldwin is still miles away from being the receiver most expected him to be this season.

2018 Week 12 vs CAR (7 / 5 / 39 / 0 rec - 6.4 points, $6500)

Baldwin had one prime opportunity, as he leapt for a ball just out of his grasp in the end zone. He was Russell Wilson's #1 target, but was not able to do more than collect short passes. The knee injury is apparently pain-free; however, he spent time this week on the sidelines due to a groin injury. It's tempting to think that maybe a fully healthy Baldwin might have caught that touchdown - but the truth is, he looks good out there: before, during, and after the catch. What has changed is his usage. The vast majority of his catches were very short throws, in which the Panthers were able to contain him fairly quickly.

2018 Week 11 vs GB (10 / 7 / 52 / 1 rec - 14.7 points, $6300)

Baldwin finally got a score under his belt this season, making a fade catch look easy in the corner of the end zone. Most of his patterns were still of the shorter variety, but Baldwin did not look hindered at all, and of course, his hands were as good as ever, making at least one catch that he had no business making. With an increase in targets for the fourth week in a row, he might now be coming close to the player that everyone expected, pre-injury.

2018 Week 10 vs LAR (5 / 5 / 39 / 0 rec - 6.4 points, $6300)

Baldwin seems to be firmly entrenched into a slightly different role than he is used to, that of possession receiver. He is still the ultra-reliable veteran that the Seahawks expect him to be, but continuing to play with an injured knee has clearly changed his game. Most of his catches were shorter routes, and while he did get one red zone catch, on a rollout, it was not an end zone look. He's bound to break out one of these games, but so far this season with Baldwin, it looks like what we see is what we get.

2018 Week 9 vs LAC (4 / 4 / 77 / 0 rec - 9.7 points, $5700)

Baldwin very quietly was the Seahawks leading receiver on the day, for the first time in a while. His first of the day was his longest: he had a step on his coverage down the sideline, making an easy catch (plus a few yards) for a 42 yard gain. After that, Baldwin did his part to move the chains, showing a lot of toughness up the middle on a couple of first down catches, but he never got a sniff in the red zone, though of course he was on the field.

2018 Week 8 vs DET (3 / 2 / 26 / 0 rec - 3.6 points, $6400)

Baldwin put up close to a goose egg, once again, which must be frustrating his fantasy owners to no end. It's been said but bears repeating: Baldwin himself has said that his previously injured knee would not be fully healthy this season. His saving grace against the Lions was that he made one very good, very athletic catch, that showed (if nothing else) that he's not to be written off yet. He also had an uncharacteristic missed opportunity on a very catchable ball in the end zone, that he actually caught, but kept only one foot in bounds as he ran out of the end zone. For fantasy, this could be a good 'buy low' moment as he's still clearly capable of making plays, but even so, with the Seahawks increasing dependence on the run game, don't expect Baldwin's numbers to go crazy, even if he does manage to get back on track. As a side note, Baldwin seemed to be playing out of the slot the majority of the time, with Lockett and Moore lining up wide.

2018 Week 6 vs OAK (8 / 6 / 91 / 0 rec - 12.1 points, $6200)

Baldwin, who had been close to invisible since returning from his knee injury two weeks ago, gave a wakeup call that he's still alive and kicking. With only a couple of pedestrian catches to show at halftime, he made up for last time on the first drive of the second half. Wilson looked to his longtime go-to receiver on four passing plays in a row. It was just like old times, as the veteran did his part, reeling in the first three like clockwork, including a Vintage Baldwin catch in tight coverage, down the sideline for a 42-yard pickup. Unfortunately, an overly eager throw into a mess of defenders in the end zone, turned into an interception, as Baldwin tried in vain to pull in the out-of-reach ball with one hand. There were reports of a possible elbow injury, which may have happened on that play, as a Raiders helmet hit his arm while reaching for the football.

2018 Week 5 vs LAR (1 / 1 / 1 / 0 rec - 0.6 points, $6700)

Baldwin returned LAST week from injury and seemed healthy in his return. So it comes as quite the surprise that the only pass he caught was a shovel pass 1-yarder on the sideline, at the end of a Russell Wilson scramble; an afterthought, basically. He has been Russell Wilson's go-to guy for quite some time, so a fair assumption would be that this is but a blip on the radar. However, red flags abound when a player comes back from a serious or chronic injury. Wilson is skilled at finding the open man - which so often has been Baldwin in the past - but, speculatively speaking here, if Baldwin's knee has slowed him so much that he is no longer the open man, this could easily become more than a passing trend.

2018 Week 4 vs ARI (7 / 5 / 41 / 0 rec - 6.6 points, $7200)

Baldwin's first action this year was a mixed bag of results. On one hand, he didn't seem hampered by his injury; but on the other, he didn't do anything to distinguish himself either. His catches were of the shorter variety, a quick slant, and another in which he found an opening and made the catch after a little bit of scrambling by Wilson. The big pluses are that he seems healthy going forward, and he's lost no love from QB Russell Wilson, and still appears to be his favored target. His couple of missed targets were hard to reach passes, so don't read into that too much. Going forward, Baldwin should still be as reliable as they come.

2018 Week 1 vs DEN (1 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec - 0 points, $7500)

Baldwin left the game early on after hurting his knee, without recording a catch. He has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 MCL sprain, which can take several weeks to heal.

Seahawks | Doug Baldwin expected back (Mon Jan 7, 07:48 PM) - Seattle Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin likely will be back with the Seahawks next season even though he dealt with multiple injuries in 2018.

Our View: Baldwin is under contract through the 2020 season. He's got great chemistry with QB Russell Wilson and just needs to stay healthy to produce. In 13 games this season, Baldwin had his lowest catch total (50) since 2013. If healthy, Baldwin is a key starter for Seattle and a WR2 with upside for Fantasy GMs.
