2017 Week 17 vs ATL (5 / 16 / 0 rush, 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)

The surprise news that Jonathan Stewart would be inactive with a back problem meant more snaps for the scat back Cameron Artis-Payne. It proved to be a wholly forgettable occasion, as Artis-Payne took his eyes off the ball on a toss play, fumbling the ball. Fortunately he was able to dive on top of it, but he committed a similar error in the second half. On what appeared to be a routine handoff, Artis-Payne did not secure the ball with two hands at the mesh point. The ball bounced off his elbow and again the Panthers were lucky to recover.

2017 Week 10 vs MIA (7 / 68 / 1 rush, 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)

The third member of the Carolina backfield was able to get involved in the mauling of Miami, but most of his important touches came with the game well out of hand. However, he was able to get into the end zone on a well executed counter play. Artis-Payne has excellent feet at the line of scrimmage and is able, like backfield mate Christian McCaffrey, to stop and change direction with a suddenness that leaves defenders grabbing at air. His touchdown was an excellent example, as he delayed his burst until the gap appeared, before bursting up the middle. Artis-Payne finished the game with a fantastic gallop up the left sideline after once again showing sweet feet at the line of scrimmage in traffic.

2017 Week 8 vs TB (4 / 8 / 0 rush, 1 / 1 / 2 / 0 rec)

One of the most noteworthy developments of this game might have been the insertion of Cameron Artis-Payne into the line-up to shake up the backfield. There had been reports prior to kickoff that the former Auburn product might be handed an opportunity, and so it proved. Artis-Payne showed excellent burst on his first touch, an 11-yard scamper between the tackles to set the offense up near the goal line. Two more goal line runs were stopped short, and Jonathan Stewart would finish the drive with a touchdown. Artis-Payne was in and out of the lineup in the second half, but only touched the ball once more on a screen pass that was quickly corralled by Tampa Bay.
