11/1: Newton is seeing a specialist to determine why his foot injury is not getting better

Summary

Cam Newton will enter his ninth season in the league in 2019. There is no other quarterback in the league with his combination of size, arm strength, and ability to make plays, both on the ground and in the air. As good as Cam Newton is, his fantasy success hinges on his rushing ability and scoring tendency. Numerous hits and usage has made him susceptible for injuries, which have taken a toll on him over the last few years. A shoulder injury that he suffered in 2017 re-surfaced in 2018 that caused him to have limited mobility in his throwing motion. As a result, his game suffered, and so did the Panthers offense, losing six of the last seven games to conclude the 2018 season. Newton had surgery in January to clean up scar tissue in his shoulder and repair cartilage damage. The procedure is expected to improve his range of motion, if not completely resolve the issue of lack of zip on his throws. When healthy, Newton is a Top 10 quarterback. In eight seasons, he has finished 4th or higher four times with three finishes outside of the Top 10 and never worse than 17th. Carolina drafted a quarterback (Will Grier) for the first time since 2011. The team claims Grier will be groomed to be the backup, and if Newton suffers another injury, at least they have an adequate plan in place to replace him. Newton can be a Top 10 fantasy quarterback or better and he represents decent value if he can be drafted after 10-12 quarterbacks come off the board. (May 5)

Panthers | Cam Newton may opt for surgery after all (Sun Nov 10, 09:50 AM) - Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (foot) is considering undergoing surgery on the Lisfranc injury in his foot, according to multiple sources. The procedure could come within the next two weeks and would require two to three months of recovery time.

Our View: Newton might have played his last game as a Panther. This would eliminate any chance of him coming back during the playoffs.
