Summary

Mixon was controversial player entering his rookie season due to off-field issues in college. But as he entered Year 2, the debate centered on his on-the-field performance. Mixon only averaged 3.5 yards per carry in his rookie season, which had many wondering if he could adapt to the NFL game. Mixon had bulked up prior to the draft, thinking he needed to be bigger for an NFL workload. But he shed weight before his second season, which made him quicker and more nimble, resulting in 4.9 yards per carry last year. Those data points are on opposite extremes, but it's more likely that the second year is sustainable, given Mixon's weight and the natural expected growth curve of an NFL player from Year 2 to Year 3. Mixon's performance last season showed that he can be a three-down back and relegated Giovani Bernard to true backup status. Mixon allows the team to be more versatile and unpredictable. If the offense as a whole can improve under new head coach Zac Taylor, expect Mixon's 2019 to look at least like his 2018 - if not better. (September 3)

Latest News

Bengals | Joe Mixon cracks the century mark (Sun Nov 10, 04:28 PM) - Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon rushed 30 times for a season-high 114 yards in Week 10 against the Baltimore Ravens while adding two receptions for 37 yards on three targets.

Our View: Mixon gave everything he had even though a good amount of his carries came when the game was out of hand. He was effective early and would be a much more valuable fantasy commodity in even an average offense. He'll be a solid RB2 play against Oakland next week.
