Outlook

Roydell Williams excited a lot of owners last season by posting career bests in receptions and yards. While his improvement and production was welcomed by Titan fans, it may be short lived. Williams is a solid run-blocker, which keeps him on the field, but he is an average route-runner and doesn't possess the quickness of the league's elite receivers. On draft day, owners will be thinking that at least one of the Titan receivers is bound to have some value and will talk themselves in to Roydell Williams. Williams is worth a spot in deep leagues, but don't make the mistake of selecting him too early.

2007 Game Summaries

Week 2 - Williams hauled in four catches for 72 yards and a touchdown. His touchdown catch came on a nice diving effort on the side of the endzone as he came down with the ball before falling out of bounds.

Week 3 - Williams led the Titans in targets, which isn't saying much since it was only five. He came up with a big third down catch in the fourth quarter in a drive alive that eventually produced a TD. Williams also had one rushing attempt in the first series of the game, an end around that the Saints blew up for an eleven yard loss.

Week 6 - Williams finished with five receptions for 44 yards and was targeted eight times in the game.

Week 7 - Williams got off to a good start catching an 18 yard pass on the first play of the game. He would catch a 39 yard pass that would set up the Titans third field goal of the game early in the second quarter. He led Tennessee with 61 yards receiving at halftime. Williams came up with his biggest catch of the game by going up and getting a 46 yard catch with 31 seconds left to help set up a last second field goal. He finished with two catches for 63 yards in the second half.

Week 8 - Williams was targeted twice, both in the fourth quarter, catching just one pass for three yards.

Week 9 - Williams was the most targeted receiver by Vince Young in this game. He caught three of the seven passes thrown to him. He picked up 22 yards on those three catches. Both of Young interceptions were targeted for Williams. On one of the interceptions, it appeared Williams stopped the route at the goal line and Young threw the pass to the back of the end zone.

Week 10 - Williams could have posted better numbers. Not only did he have a touchdown catch called back because of a penalty on a teammate, he was open on two occasions but was overthrown.

Week 11 - Williams dropped an almost certain touchdown in the first half. He caught his other four looks to finish fourth on the team in receiving yards.

Week 12 - Williams was not a very reliable target for Vince Young. His only receptions would come in the first half, and was unable to capitalize on a great opportunity to score in the third quarter. He had his man beat in the end zone but had turned the wrong way on a catchable pass.

Week 13 - Williams' big play came on a 43 yard touchdown pass down the left sideline where Roydell beat his defender and caught a well thrown ball from Vince Young. Williams tied for the team lead in targets.

Week 14 - The only reason Williams is mentioned is because he was the leading receiver on the Titans. Williams' biggest play was a 17 yard strike that was far more a result of a great pass from Vince Young than a great grab by Williams. He was also the target on Young's second half interception by Matt Wilhelm, a very poorly thrown pass. Williams didn't see another pass the remainder of the game after that one. His other two first half receptions totaled 13 yards, and he wasn't much of a factor at all in the game.

Week 15 - Speedy Roydell Williams was the third receiver to be targeted six times in this game by Young. He was the most successful too. He caught four passes for 94 yards and two touchdowns. On his second touchdown, he left the defenders behind and streaked into the end zone for a 41 yard scoring catch and run. Williams and Young have developed a nice chemistry.

Week 16 - Roydell Williams saw six targets in the game, catching four of them for 54 yards. He was the leading receiver for the Titans and was key in moving the chains on many third and long situations.

Week 17 - Roydell Williams is a young receiver who seems to be getting better with experience. He showed that he can take the short pass and gain more yards when covered by one defensive back and that he can take a big hit and pop back up when he caught two key third down passes right on the first down line and was hit immediately. Five of his receptions resulted in first downs.
