Best Case

Weaver demonstrated great hands out of the backfield in 2008. If his role as a pass-catching specialist is expanded or exploited, he could see an upside in PPR leagues. A best case scenario would be 50-ish carries and 60-ish catches plus a TD or two. In PPR leagues that might be a flex worthy player for a team in dire straits.

Worst Case

If Weaver is grossly outplayed by rookie Owen Schmitt as a blocking FB, he might not see the field much in 2008. The team has plenty of pass-catching options out of the backfield. With Julius Jones, T.J. Duckett, and Maurice Morris all battling for field time, Weaver might find himself the odd man out most weeks. As an experience FB in Holmgren's offense, he is not likely to be cut, but he may not see more than a handful of targets in 2008.

Outlook

The FB in Mike Holmgren's offense does not touch the ball much. That will continue in 2008. Weaver will occasionally catch a pass or two, but unless there is absolute devastation to the HBs, Weaver should not be rostered except in the deepest of leagues, or possibly in PPR leagues.

2007 Game Summaries

Week 2 - Weaver came into the game briefly in the first half, as Holmgren pulled the under-performing Shaun Alexander. He had one carry and one catch.

Week 3 - The interim backup while Maurice Morris is out, saw almost no action, finishing with one carry for three yards.

Week 5 - Weaver was dependable, catching both balls thrown to him, one for a rare Seahawks first down. Not a fantasy factor, as he is sharing time as a change of pace back.

Week 6 - Weaver had a great game filling in at fullback for the recently retired stalwart, Mack Strong. He was the team's leading rusher despite only carrying the ball three times, and his 53 yard receiving were the best of any non-wide receiver.

Week 7 - Weaver caught all three balls thrown to him for first downs. He is no threat to steal a lot of carries, but was productive when given the ball. With the recent retirement of Mack Strong, Weaver appears to be taking on a slightly bigger role.

Week 10 - Weaver was only called upon to rush the ball twice, but he also was able to haul in a couple of passes.

Week 11 - Weaver was the main third down back, and consequently a frequent dump-off option for Hasselbeck. Most of his targets were of the everyone else is covered variety.

Week 12 - Weaver touched the ball exactly once, but he made it count.

Week 13 - Weaver's value was as the only back targeted on passes out of the backfield.

Week 14 - While mainly a blocking back for Morris and Alexander, Weaver contributed to the passing offense with four catches for 56 yards including 43 yard screen pass in the second quarter.

Week 15 - Weaver caught two passes for 11 yards but neither one resulted in a first down. His last target was right at the start of the third quarter.

Week 16 - Weaver had one target in each of the first three quarters of the game, and added four carries. Otherwise, he was the Seahawks blocking fullback.

Week 17 - Weaver's workload increased as the game went on. In the second half, he split carries with Morris, and though he did not break any long ones, he did consistently gain 4-6 yards each time.

Week 18 - Leonard Weaver only carried the ball once, but he made it count, taking it to the house for a 17 yard touchdown. With fullback Mack Strong's career over, Weaver has started at fullback for the Seahawks, and provides the team with a dynamic option given his running and receiving ability. He caught two passes for eight yards on three targets.

Week 19 - Leonard Weaver again starting as the fullback, carried the ball four times for ten yards. Despite showing the explosive ability that fellow running backs Shaun Alexander and Maurice Morris have failed to in recent weeks, the Seahawks did not make an effort to get the ball in Weaver's hands until the very end of the game.
