Best Case

Osi Umenyiora is one of the premier pass rushers in the NFL and is also a solid run defender. He has had 14 or more sacks in two of the last three seasons. With Umenyiora putting up sack numbers like those and adding close to 40 solo tackles, he is one of the elite fantasy defensive linemen. His other peripheral numbers are very good and if he can show even modest improvement, he could contend to be the top fantasy DL in 2008.

Worst Case

The list of things to not like about Umenyiora is pretty short. He is an elite player who puts up elite numbers, but he has only started all 16 games twice in his five year career. There is also the possibility of more double teams with the retirement of Michael Strahan, as well as a possible Super Bowl hangover. But Umenyiora puts up such solid tackle numbers that he could survive a loss of a few sacks, and at worst, should be in the lower part of the top ten DL.

Outlook

Umenyiora is one of the top defensive linemen in football and has very few weaknesses in his game. Over his last 57 games, he has 154 solo tackles, 42.5, sacks, 13 forced fumbles and eight fumble recoveries. He is an explosive pass rusher and is capable of monster games at any time. With the consistent tackle numbers combined with high sack numbers, Umenyiora should once again be in or around the top five DL with the upside to be number one.
