2007 Game Summaries

Week 1 - Toomer looked to be an important part of the Giants' receiving game, and he did not appear to be slowed by his recent recovery from ACL surgery. Toomer caught all five balls thrown his way in the first half. Two were for first downs. One catch was negated because his foot was a few inches beyond the back of the end zone, or he would have been credited with a 35 yard touchdown reception. Toomer caught five of his six second half targets. He had gains of six yards, 21 yards, and 14 yards for first downs. Manning looked for Toomer 11 times in the game.

Week 2 - Despite being targeted seven times, Toomer was only able to make two catches. His first reception came in the second quarter with a little over eight minutes to play. The corner fell down on the play and Toomer was able to break a tackle and gain 40 yards. His only other catch also came in the second quarter and went for eight yards. In the third quarter, Toomer found himself open in the end zone, but a less than perfect throw by Manning resulted in an incomplete pass. Though it has no fantasy implications, Toomer was flagged later on in the third quarter for an un-sportsmanlike penalty that turned a Giants' third and goal from the Packers eight yard line into a third and goal from the 23.

Week 3 - Toomer was targeted five times in the game, catching four of them for 24 yards. One reception was a nine yard completion where he was tackled at the one yard line and gave way to Reuben Droughns' second touchdown run.

Week 4 - Toomer was a first down machine this game, moving the chains on all four of his receptions, the type of thing we come to expect out of Veterans such as Toomer.

Week 5 - Toomer was targeted only twice on the day. One pass was Eli Manning's only interception, while the other fell incomplete.

Week 6 - Toomer caught his first pass for ten yards and a first down on the first drive of the game. On the same drive, he caught a five yard touchdown pass over the middle in the end zone. He almost had a second touchdown on the next drive when he took a 17 yard pass to the one yard line. Toomer caught a big 15 yard pass in the second quarter on third down play to extend a drive that would result in a Giants' touchdown on the next play. Toomer had four catches for 47 yards and a touchdown in the first half.

Toomer's first catch of the second half came on a 15 yard completion for first down late in the third quarter. QB Eli Manning tried to hit Toomer on a deep pass down the right side line but, it was intercepted. On his seventh catch of the game, he became the Giants all time leading reception leader breaking former teammate Tiki Barber's record. It was a 16 yard catch for a first down. He finished the second half with three catches for 47 yards.

Week 7 - Toomer benefited from the attention given to Burress, scoring a touchdown in his second straight game. His four yard touchdown grab in the first quarter gave him the all time New York Giants touchdown record, surpassing Kyle Rote's previous record of 48. He finished the day catching three of his five looks for 36 yards.

Week 8 - Toomer caught one pass for 13 yards, on a total of five targets. Two of his targets were on bad throws by Manning, one of which would have been an easy touchdown. Toomer did not help himself though, with two drops on the day, also with one that would have likely got him a score.

Week 10 - Toomer shared team high seven targets and was able to bring in three of them for 37 yards. He was the Giants' main possession receiver and found the soft spot in the zone most of the game.

Week 11 - Toomer saw some more balls come his way as we brought in four of his six targets for 39 yards. He was the main possession receiver, securing the ball past the sticks and continually moving the chains.

Week 12 - Toomer, like all Giants receivers, had a hard time getting on the same page with Eli Manning. Toomer caught just half of the passes thrown his way, though a few of the balls were difficult to tell they were actually thrown to him. Most of his receptions were big plays though, catching passes of 31, 24, 6 and 22 yards.

Week 13 - Amani Toomer came through with 69 yards on six receptions, while catching the lone Eli Manning touchdown. On that play it was initially ruled as though the six yard pass was incomplete, however upon review it was determined that Toomer got his hands underneath the under thrown ball for his third touchdown of the season. With Plaxico Burress laboring on the field, Toomer became Eli's go to receiver in many key situations, and had a fine day catching all six of the targets he received.

Week 14 - Toomer was the traditional possession receiver, as he was able to bring in three of his four targets for 37 total yards. He was the clear second or third option on the day and played his usual role, as he moved the chains on all three of his catches. He was also targeted on a passing play in which an Eagles penalty made the down null.

Week 15 - Toomer had a terrible night. He was targeted nine times and caught zero balls. This was not solely because of the wind, either, as many of the balls thrown his way were catchable. One of the balls he dropped he beat Shawn Springs on the outside and was wide open with no Redskin within ten yards of him. The ball hung up in the air a little, but hit his hands right in front of his body, basically summing up the night for the Giants.

Week 16 - The Giants eventually got their ground game going, but Toomer made some great plays early in this contest when the Bills appeared to be on the verge of running away with the game. He converted key third downs and displayed emotion after every catch. His 99 receiving yards was by far the best for either team.

Week 17 - Amani Toomer caught four passes for 41 yards, on seven total targets. Toomer was targeted most often on intermediate routes. He committed a costly fourth quarter holding penalty that negated a Brandon Jacobs first down run.

Week 18 - Amani Toomer played well for the Giants. The veteran was targeted a team high seven times and responded by catching all seven passes thrown his way for 74 yards. Toomer hauled in a four yard touchdown reception halfway through the fourth quarter that basically sealed the victory for New York.

Week 19 - Toomer did a great job as Manning's primary receiver. He had two touchdowns, including the first where he had a nice run after the catch for a long score. Toomer dropped what would have been around a 20 yard gain in the first half.

Week 20 - Amani Toomer caught four passes for 42 yards, his longest play of the game coming on a 23 yard catch down the left sideline. With the exception of that play, Toomer had a forgettable game. He dropped the ball three times, all on plays that would have got the Giants first downs. On two other plays him and Eli Manning also appeared to have a miscommunication. The cold weather affects players differently, and it's obvious Toomer did not look all that comfortable out there.

Week 21 - Toomer had a slow start but ended up being a key player in the Giants victory. He made an amazing catch down the sidelines for 38 yards, in which he got away with a push-off but still ended up making a sideline catch that required him to keep his feet in bounds. He led the Giants in receiving and caught all the balls thrown his way.
