2012 Game Summaries

Week 7 - Thomas first reception was a checkdown on first and 10 when he got six easy yards underneath the coverage. Thomas then caught a touchdown pass when he was wide open down the middle of the field. The Buccaneers' defense bought the Saints play action to free him. Even though Thomas spent a lot of time on the field in the absence of Jimmy Graham, he was by no means the replacement for the tight end in the passing game. That mantle belongs to Lance Moore.

Week 12 - With Graham spied for most of the game, Thomas was able to sneak off the line and produce some short catches. The first play of the game, Brees ran a play-action and was heavily pressured. The quarterback was able to dump it off to Thomas, who had slipped in to space. On a play-action pass in the red zone, Thomas was able to find a gap short, behind the pass rush and in front of the coverage. Catching the ball in space before the goal line, Thomas ran in to the end zone for a touchdown. Though Thomas didn’t display the speed or athleticism of Graham, he was able to make the most of his targets and served as an outlet valve when Brees was under heavy duress.

Week 15 - Thomas caught both targets, including a nine-yard TD on the Saints’ opening drive. Working off the line, Thomas faked the out before angling back inside and easily scoring on the short toss.
