Game Summaries

Week 2 vs OAK - Upon entering the game, Thigpen appeared confident but also seemed nervous. To beat the pass rush, he was taking three step drops and unloading the ball quickly and fearlessly into coverage. As the game progressed he showed slightly better decision making and accuracy. His one shining moment came on a drive late in the game, playing mostly hurry up offense, in which he marched the team 80 yards in under three minutes for the touchdown and two point conversion. The main difference being that he locked onto Dwayne Bowe and Tony Gonzalez. He did throw one interception, a pass intended for a triple covered Gonzalez.

Week 3 at ATL - Thigpen had a rough day, starting his first NFL game after having come off the bench last week. He struggled to find open receivers until the 2 minute drill to end the first half, in which he found Dwayne Bowe for a touchdown. He was constantly pressured and showed that he can scramble when needed, but was unable to overcome the Falcons tight coverage. The coaching staff showed confidence in him after the touchdown -- by leaving him in for the second half -- and he responded with a better second half. On the downside, he threw three interceptions on the day, and they weren't even close to a Kansas City receiver.

Week 5 at CAR - Thigpen relieved Huard in the fourth quarter. On a positive note, he was decisive -- in sharp contrast to Huard; unfortunately, his decision making was not always sound. He managed to avoid being intercepted, but also spent a lot of time scrambling away from a maddening Panthers pass rush. Oh, and by the way, he was two yards shy of being the Chiefs leading rusher in the game.
