Best Case
Matt Spaeth had a quiet rookie year in 2007 and was mainly used for run blocking and red zone possessions. He managed to score 3 TDs on only 5 total receptions. General thinking suggests he'll be more involved in the offense after having a year of experience under his belt, but with Heath Miller ahead of him on the depth chart, he'll likely be used again mainly as a run blocker and change of pace TE in the red zone. 15-20 receptions for 150 yards with 4-5 TDs would be a best case scenario
Worst Case
The Steelers primary threat at TE is Heath Miller, who is really starting to come into his own as one of the league's better TEs. If Miller takes a giant leap in becoming a better, more reliable and productive TE, then it could mean less and less of Matt Spaeth having any presence in the offense. Spaeth only had 5 receptions all last year, if Miller continues to thrive he may not get much more than that. Hiis TD totals (3 last year) could possibly drop with the emergence of Miller's role in the offense.
Outlook
The likely scenario for Matt Spaeth in 2008 is an increase in receptions from five the year prior, but not enough to warrant fantasy consideration. However, if Heath Miller finds the injury bug, it could propel Spaeth into a possible starting TE role for the Steelers. Spaeth is more of a blocking back than a receiver, but he has had a knack of catching TD passes when the ball is thrown his way in the red zone. His 2008 outlook is 10-15 receptions for 100 yards with 3-4 TDs.
