Best Case
Brad Smith is obviously behind two entrenched starters, so his best scenario is if injury strikes Laveranues Coles or Jerricho Cotchery. Smith would then be thrust into the starting lineup where his great athleticism and knowledge of the playbook would make him valuable fantasy receiver. He's taller than Coles and Cotchery, and may be more agile. Even if both receivers are healthy, Smith could still wind up with 500 or 600 yards.
Worst Case
It's possible that Smith loses playing time to RB Leon Washington, TE Dustin Keller, FB Tony Richards, or WRs Marcus Henry and Wallace Wright. While Smith's versatility ensures that he'll be on the field occasionally, the Jets have the depth on offense to run many different sets and with several receivers. Smith hasn't proven that he can be a dependable third receiver, and he's never had more than 50 total yards in a game. His hands are questionable, and Henry, Wright or Chansi Stuckey could end up stealing the third WR spot with a strong training camp.
Outlook
As long as Cotchery and Coles are healthy, Smith has almost no fantasy value. The Jets offseason moves don't look promising for Smith, as New York looks intent on running more two-wide receiver sets this season. He'll probably end up with about 400 all purpose yards and is unlikely to really explode in any given week either.

2007 Game Summaries
Week 2 - Both of Smith's looks came in the third quarter, although the second looked a lot more like a throw away out of bounds by Clemens.
Week 3 - The former Missouri quarterback caught three passes for 24 yards. He also gained 14 yards on two carries, both in the third quarter. Coach Mangini seems to be looking for creative ways of getting Smith involved in this offense, and his role may become more significant.
Week 4 - Smith has been gaining more time as he competes to become the Jets' third receiver. He was targeted only three times, however. Smith caught a swing pass for a ten yard gain. He also had a 26 yard reception.
The versatile Smith took one handoff for a two yard gain.
Week 5 - Smith produced the only offensive score of the day bringing in one of his four total targets for a 16 yard touchdown late in the second quarter. He added two more catches to finish the day with three receptions for 44 total yards.
Week 6 - Smith was used in a change up role, catching one of his three targets for a total of two yards. He also added one rush for a four yard gain.
Week 7 - Smith was the third wide receiver for the Jets. He caught his only real target, with his other coming on a desperation pass by Pennington.
Week 8 - Smith saw six targets come his way and was able to bring in three of them for 46 yards. He was used in a number of formations and has clearly established himself as the third wide receiver for the Jets.
Week 9 - Smith took advantage of a quarterback change and his opportunity with Laveranues Coles out of the lineup to earn five more targets than his previous career high. Despite all these looks, he finished fourth on the team in yardage, as he dropped several passes.
Week 11 - Smith was targeted eight times, five in the fourth quarter alone, and caught three passes for 26 yards. He also lined up under center and ran an option around right end. The Jets seem to be looking for creative ways to use the former option quarterback.
Week 12 - Smith posted very low numbers, but two of his targets came in the red zone, with one of those targets in the end zone.
Week 13 - As with McCareins, Jets receiver Brad Smith made the most of his limited looks by catch one out of his three targets for a 19 yard touchdown. It was a fantastic catch and run as Smith showed his versatility and quickness.
Week 15 - Brad Smith, who was used in a wide array of situations, was only able to gain ten yards rushing on three carries as he was shut out through the air, only seeing three targets.
Week 16 - Smith saw the second most targets from quarterback Chad Pennington, as he hauled in five of eight for 45 total yards. He was surprisingly used as only a receiving option, getting no rushes or passing attempts from a Jets team who usually utilizes this offensive threat.
