2007 Game Summaries
Week 1 - Shockey was effective in the first half, catching five of his six targets. He converted two first downs and dragged defenders with him to gain as many yards as possible on each reception. Manning only went to him once in the second half but the pass was incomplete.
Week 2 - Giants quarterbacks targeted Shockey early and often. On the Giants first play of the game, Manning hooked up with Shockey for 19 yards. His next catch came late in the second quarter and went for another 19 yards. On that same drive Shockey hauled in a pass that went for 14 yards, but the play was nullified after Shockey was flagged for delay of game when he batted the ball after the play was over. On the very next play Shockey was wide open near the goal line, but Manning's pass hung in the air too long and that allowed a Packers defender to close and Shockey couldn't hang on. On the Giants' last drive of the game, Shockey hauled in two Jared Lorenzen passes for a total of 15 yards.
Week 3 - Jeremy Shockey was targeted ten times by quarterback Eli Manning and he managed to grab five balls for 79 total yards. He seemed to get more downfield looks and was targeted on an abnormal number of play action passes, including his long catch of the day that was good for 27 yards.
Week 4 - Shockey was unable to get involved in the passing game, only being targeted three times. He was used as an effective blocker throughout the game against the Eagles aggressive pass rush, but he only caught one pass.
Week 5 - Shockey managed to grab two of his five targets for 33 yards, 13 of which came on his first touchdown reception of the season.
Week 6 - Shockey caught all the passes that came his way in the game. His biggest catch in the first half was a 21 yard pass for a first down in the second quarter. He would add two more receptions for 19 yards in the first half. Shockey's fourth catch of the game was 19 yard reception on the left sideline for a first down. He had one more catch for four yards in the second half.
Week 7 - Shockey caught the other Manning touchdown pass as he hauled in five of his six targets for 39 yards. He was open much of the day as the middle of the field was very soft allowing the Giants bruising tight end to find enough space to be effective.
Week 8 - Shockey caught three passes for 26 yards, on six total targets. His biggest play of the game came on an Eli Manning pass to the short left side which Shockey was able to gain 21 yards on. Shockey had one drop on the day on a bullet pass, that popped up in the air and was intercepted by a Dolphins defender. That play was nullified by a defensive holding penalty though. The Giants tried short screens to get the ball in Shockey's hands, but had trouble finding him on intermediate routes.
Week 10 - Shockey had a season high 14 targets and was able to pull in 12 of them for 129 yards and a score. He was the main target for quarterback Eli Manning and was open down the seam consistently. He now has two touchdowns in his last three games.
Week 11 - Shockey again was targeted a good amount of times and was able to make the most out of his six targets, as he brought five of them in for 41 total yards. It was his 25th catch in his last four games; Shockey is clearly becoming used more in the New York passing attack.
Week 12 - Shockey was not on the same page as Manning at all during the game. Three of Manning's passes to Shockey resulted in touchdowns, however they were Minnesota Vikings touchdowns. Several times Manning threw to Shockey and the ball fell incomplete or was intercepted without Shockey even turning to look for the ball. Manning continued to go to Shockey, though and he finished with 44 yards on four receptions.
Week 13 - Jeremy Shockey caught two passes for 25 yards on five targets in what had to be a disappointing day for the tight end. With Plaxico Burress hobbled and playing at less than full strength, it was Amani Toomer who elevated his game and not Shockey in this one. Shockey was targeted on Eli Manning's first quarter interception on a play that appeared as though Shockey wasn't running the same route Manning expected him to. Later in the game Shockey made a few big plays though, one was a third quarter catch for 18 yards to put the Giants deep in the Bears end of the field. The other came in the fourth quarter on a drawn defensive pass interference penalty that would move the Giants offense into the red zone.
Week 14 - Shockey stayed in on a more than usual amount of plays but was only able to see six balls come his way, bringing in only one ball for four yards. He did have a target in the end zone where he was open but Manning missed him.
Week 15 - Shockey only had two catches for 18 yards before being hurt when Amani Toomer fell into on top of him in the third quarter. He was carted into the locker room, and it came back as a fractured fibula.
Week 16 - Shockey was placed on IR this week with a broken leg.
