Best Case

Entering his seventh season, Antwaan Randle El is still looking for his first top-40 fantasy finish. He's the epitome of a player that's worth more to his real world NFL team than he is to fantasy owners. A jack of all trades, Randle El is valuable on special teams and in the locker room and makes just enough plays on offense to maintain his role. He set career highs last season for receptions (51) and yards (728), so further growth cannot be ruled out. If he adjusts to the new offense quickly and maintains his focus, a 60-catch, 800-yard season wouldn't be unrealistic.

Worst Case

Entering his seventh season, Randle El just doesn't have the pedigree to expect much more than mediocrity. When your career best fantasy finish is 48th, you're someone whose downside isn't even worth considering, because the baseline isn't good enough to make most fantasy rosters.

Outlook

Randle El gets paid a tremendous amount of money for mediocre offensive results. Fantasy owners don't care about special teams value or locker room presence if they don't bring good offensive stats along for the ride. In Randle El's case, he shouldn't be drafted in anything but the deepest leagues, and he is particularly unappealing in dynasty leagues given the presence of two promising rookie receivers.

2007 Game Summaries

Week 1 - Randle El had a career yardage game while leading the team in receptions and yardage. He was a favorite of Campbell on long targets, catching passes of 35, 49, and 54 yards. Randle El nearly won the game on the last play of regulation, as he caught a tipped Hail Mary pass about five yards from the end zone and nearly scored before being knocked out of bounds. He also fielded punts for the Redskins.

Week 2 - Randle El caught his first pass late in the second quarter for ten yards but, came up just short of a first down after making some nice moves to elude a couple of defenders. He caught a 17 yard pass and made a nice move after the catch and almost got into the end zone, but he was tackled on the Philadelphia one yard line late in the first half. He made a big eight catch for a first down on the first drive of second half and added a nine yard catch later in fourth quarter. Randle El only had four catches but, had some nice short runs after the catch.

Week 3 - Randle El caught two out of his six looks from Campbell for a total of 32 yards. He continuously found the open spaces in the Giant's secondary, however due to Campbell's troubles throwing the ball, was unable to be more of a factor.

Week 5 - Randle El was the number one receiver with Santana Moss out, and looked like a number one receiver for the first half. Randle El posted 100 yards on seven receptions in the first half. On the final reception, a 37 yard play to the one yard line, Randle El strained a hamstring and did not return after halftime.

Week 6 - Randle El's status for this game was in question due to a hamstring injury, but he was able to make the start and finished the game with two catches. He had a drop on a third down play in the second quarter that would have picked up a first down. In addition to his receiving duties, Randle El also returned one punt for four yards.

Week 7 - The leading focus of the anemic pass offense of the Washington Redskins in week seven, Randle El pulled in three catches for 54 yards to lead the team.

Week 8 - Randle El was targeted all over the field, both short and deep, and even attempted a pass that didn't connect with Chris Cooley. He had the longest catch of the game for the Redskins, a 28 yard reception.

Week 9 - Randle El saw a decrease from his average amount of targets. He wasn't much of a factor in the game.

Week 10 - Most of Randle El's looks came on short and medium routes. His longest catch of the game was 12 yards.

Week 11 - Randle El caught seven passes for 53 yards on 11 targets. Being worked into other dimensions of the offense, he also completed a 19 yard pass to Chris Cooley, and took a handoff out of the backfield for zero yards. With Santana Moss returning to the lineup, Randle El was able to get open on underneath and short patterns. He was not targeted any deeper than about ten yards down the field, giving Jason Campbell more of a possession style receiver.

Week 12 - Randle El was targeted twice, but did not record a catch. He also had one rushing attempt for one yard.

Week 14 - Randle El had his biggest play of the game on a 22 yard pass for a first down on the last play of the first quarter. He had a big play late in the game on a third down for 15 yards and a first down while Washington was driving deep into Chicago territory.

Week 15 - Randle El was unable to catch either of the balls thrown his way. Todd Collins seemed to favor throwing to Chris Cooley and Santana Moss on the night.

Week 16 - Randle El caught a pass from Clinton Portis for a touchdown in the second quarter, which blew the game wide open in favor of the Redskins. He also was able to hold on to the other four balls thrown his way, leading to 66 total yards.

Week 17 - Randle El only caught three balls despite finishing second on the team in targets.

Week 18 - Randle El caught an amazing ten of his 11 targets, for 94 yards and a touchdown. With his main targets Chris Cooley and Santana Moss dropping passes throughout the game, Todd Collins found comfort in Randle El, mostly on routes over the middle. He took an end around for two yards. The only target he did not catch was a ball intercepted by Jordan Babineaux and taken for a 57 yard touchdown, to break the Redskins backs.
