Best Case
Jeb Putzier was lost in the Houston offense. But before that, with Denver, he displayed some good receiving skill. He was actually the #12 fantasy TE in 2004 and the #24 fantasy TE in 2005. With that kind of skill set at his disposal, it is not unthinkable to imagine Putzier becoming the receiving TE this team has been desperate to find. John Carlson is a rookie and rookie TEs traditionally struggle to master the NFL game. Will Heller is essentially a sixth lineman. Winning the starting/primary receiving TE role is a distinct possibility for Putzier.
Worst Case
Simply put, Putzier could find himself as, at best, the third TE behind Carlson and Heller. The team actually has a few role-playing TEs, so Putzier could be relegated to either inactive status or special teams every week. A player can not accumulate much fantasy worth from those roles on the team.
Outlook
It is unlikely the Seahawks will cut Putzier after signing him in the off-season, but this team clearly would like rookie Carlson to take on the mantle of receiving TE in the offense. Putzier will see the field a little bit in two TE sets, and could have a smattering of close-in TD catches. Hasselbeck does not care who catches the ball as long as they catch it, and Putzier might be the guy open down near the goal line. That said, the TE historically does not catch the ball much in Holmgren's offense, so somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 catches on the season would exceed expectations.
