Best Case

Odom replaces former Bengals mainstay Justin Smith who was a tackling machine at the DE position but had career low sack numbers in '07. Odom on the other hand, remained healthy for the first time in his 4 pro seasons and tallied a career best 8 sacks while playing in a limited (pass rush) role for the Titans. The Bengals are counting on Odom to pair with Robert Geathers and put a pass rush back in their game plan. Geathers totaled 10 sacks in '06 so the potential is there for this pair to be very successful. If all goes according to plan Odom could push the 40 tackle, 10 sack envelope.

Worst Case

After managing a league low 22 sacks last season the Bengals were desperate for improvement in that area. Odom is coming off a career year but he still has a lot to prove and comes to a team that has a history of below average sack production. Odom's first three seasons were filled with nagging injuries and underachievement, leaving us to wonder if he has really turned the corner or was he a one year wonder? There is a wide range of possibility here and there is certainly a chance that he will either struggle with his first every down opportunity or even worse, be bitten by the injury bug once again.

Outlook

Odom is a risk/reward guy. He comes with the potential to be a solid backup option or maybe even a decent #2 starter but there is an equal chance that he ends up in the 30 tackle and 3-5 sack range. He's never completed a full slate of games as a starter which is a huge red flag. On the other hand he could be the next Derrick Burgess. A guy who struggled through injury with his first club only to find great success after a change of scenery. The good news is that Odom will be available late in your draft where he would be a worthy selection as a sleeper/backup with upside.
