Week 6 Injury Status and Other News
He was not listed on Friday's official injury report.Week 6 Matchup Info
vs Philadelphia Eagles (Neutral matchup) - J.T. O'Sullivan was a schizophrenic QB last week, with a modest 14/29 for 130 yards passing, but also 3 TDs to his credit. To make matters worse, he also tossed 3 interceptions while taking only 1 New England sack. Isaac Bruce scored 2 of 3 TDs, with 3/49/2, while Frank Gore notched the other TD (4/24/1). As of today, O'Sullivan is a borderline fantasy starter, with 82/14 for 1092 pass yards, 7 TDs and 6 interceptions to his credit (12th fantasy QB in points per game). The Eagles fly in the middle of the NFL flock, averaging 190.4 net passing yards allowed per game, with 7 passing TDs given up to date. They have generated 18 sacks (league-best), but only 4 interceptions so far. The Redskins' Jason Campbell threw for 16/29 for 176 yards, 0 TDs and 0 interceptions last week - the Redskins' team posted 17/30 for 185 net yards, 1 TD and 0 interceptions against Philly. The Eagles get in opposing offensive back fields, but they also give up big plays down the field when the blitz of the moment is picked up.
O'Sullivan has played pretty well through the first 1/4 of the season, while the Eagles are up and down. At home in Walsh Field, we think the home crowd will level the playing field for O'Sullivan despite last week's struggles - this is a neutral matchup from our perspective.
Game Summaries
Week 1 vs ARI - O'Sullivan had a respectable first half hitting several of his passes to backs out of the backfield. O'Sullivan had 141 yards passing in the first half, but managed just 54 yards in the second half. He fumbled twice after being sacked and was intercepted once. He hit six different receivers, but his longest pass of the day was a 37 yard toss to TE Vernon Davis.Week 2 at SEA - O'Sullivan ran for his life in this game and was sacked eight times, but he kept his cool, showed some elusiveness, and came up with a number of big plays. Playing in his first road start in front of a noisy crowd, O'Sullivan fumbled once (which he recovered) and did not throw an INT (he did have one that was negated by a penalty), despite facing constant pressure from the Seattle front seven. He also did a good job spreading the ball around, keeping his top three WRs (Isaac Bruce, Bryant Johnson and Arnaz Battle) involved in the game. O'Sullivan's favorite target was Bruce, and the two clicked for receptions of 27, 63, 30 and 33 yards. Johnson had a 25 yard catch, and Battle also had a 25 yarder that was called back. O'Sullivan made a couple of nice runs, including a 16 yard scramble in the fourth quarter that kept the game-tying drive alive. Mike Martz says O'Sullivan may be the best QB he has ever coached, and we began to see reasons for the high praise in this game.
Week 3 vs DET - O'Sullivan had a solid performance against the Lions, where he finished with zero turnovers and was sacked just one time. He finished 16 of 23 for 189 yards, and touchdown scores of six yards to WR Isaac Bruce and 24 yards to TE Delanie Walker. O'Sullivan also showed some mobility out of the pocket as he rushed eight times for 32 yards.
Week 4 at NO - O'Sullivan was under constant pressure from the Saint front seven as he was constantly harassed by aggressive defensive lineman and blitzing linebackers. He started good, completing four of his first five passes and getting sacked just once. The incompletion was on a ball that was almost intercepted at the goal line. After that things went downhill as he was only able to complete three of his next twelve passes before half time. His timing appeared to be off as he was not able to get into any type of rhythm while being pressured into bad passes. In the second half he was able to generate some drives, but they were stopped on two bad throws that were intercepted in the end zone. On his only touchdown pass he was forced out of the pocket and was running away from the rush when he say Isaac Bruce open in the corner of the end zone.
Week 5 vs NE - QB J.T. O'Sullivan threw the ball well but some unlucky bounces ended up as interceptions. He was forced out of the pocket frequently but showed some skill in avoiding pressure and scrambling for yardage. He mistakenly threw the ball away on the final fourth down of the game for the 49ers instead of trying to force the ball in a last ditch effort.
Two of O'Sullivan's interceptions came on 'deflected balls. The first interception simply fell into the arms of DB Brandon Meriweather as he laid on the ground and DB Deltha O'Neal grabbed the ball out of the air after it was deflected by DB Rodney Harrison. The other interception happened when Harrison jumped the route of the intended receiver.
