Week 12 Matchup Info

at Miami Dolphins (Good matchup) - Matt Cassel was still getting comfortable in the saddle for New England back in week 3, when the Dolphins blew out the Patriots 38-13. He managed 19/31 for 131 yards, 1 TD and 1 interception, with 2/4/0 rushing - Wes Welker (6/55/0) and Jabar Gaffney (6/51/1) led the team in receiving back on that day in September.

Since September, Cassel has improved quite a bit, of course - over the last 3 weeks, he's thrown for 78/119 for 838 yards, 3 TDs and 1 interception, with 22/104/1 rushing as a sweetener - last week, he tossed 30/51 for 400 yards, 3 TDs and 0 interceptions, and also added 8/62/0 rushing. Wes Welker led the team with 7/108/0 receiving; Ben Watson had 8/88/1; Jabar Gaffney posted 7/86/1; while Randy Moss snagged the other TD (he had the least amount of receiving on the team last week, with 3/26/1). It was by far Cassel's best fantasy outing of the season.

The Dolphins are currently 19th in the NFL averaging 222.6 net yards allowed per game, and have coughed up 12 passing TDs vs. 8 interceptions and 27 sacks generated (7th in the NFL). They have 10 sacks and 3 interceptions over the last 3 weeks, with an average of 197.6 net passing yards given up during that time frame. Last week, lowly JaMarcus Russell threw for 15/22 for 116 yards, 0 TDs and 0 interceptions vs. the Dolphins. They've been up and down in this phase of the game over the last few weeks, but beat on a team they should have last week.

Cassel played his best game of the season last week - he'll have to fight a 12th man down in Miami, but the suspect Dolphins should make for a fairly easy matchup for Cassel and company.

Game Summaries

Week 3 vs MIA - Rookie backup QB Kevin O'Connell filled in for Matt Cassel late in the game. Although his body of work was small and it came at a time when the Dolphins defense was much more concerned with the victory celebration, O'Connell completed 75% of his passes and looked decisive. His yards per attempt clocked in at 6.3 and while it wasn't enough to cause a QB controversy, the rookie showed he could prove to be a worthy option should Cassel continue to struggle.
