Outlook

Matt Moore began last season thinking he'd have the starting job in Miami. Then the team drafted Ryan Tannehill and Moore found himself on the bench. Barring an injury—or complete meltdown—on the part of Tannehill, that's where Moore will stay. Ultimately, Moore would probably be serviceable in place of Tannehill given the weapons at his disposal. On the other hand, the offensive line is a bit shaky and Moore isn't the most mobile guy. More than likely he won't be called to duty this season and will remain a career backup.

2012 Game Summaries

Week 8 - After Ryan Tannehill left with a first quarter leg injury, Moore effectively managed the game and made plays when he needed to. Moore came on during his team’s third drive, but started to make plays during his team’s fourth drive. On a 1st-and-10 play from the Jets’ 20-yard line, Moore stepped up into the pocket and threw a perfect slant route to Brian Hartline for 15 yards. Two plays later, Moore hit Anthony Fasano dragging across the back of the end zone, but Fasano was unable to keep both feet in-bounds. On the next play, Daniel Thomas finished the drive by taking a three-yard red zone plunge, giving the Dolphins a 17-0 lead early in the second quarter. Given the score and injury to Tannehill, the Dolphins gave Moore an array of short, intermediate throws throughout the game. When given the opportunity to throw downfield, Moore did not disappoint. During his team’s sixth drive, Moore threw a great deep ball down the left sideline to Marlon Moore on a 3rd-and-4. Marlon Moore dove to complete the 37-yard play, but the touch Moore put on this pass made this play possible. This big play set-up a field goal.

After halftime, Moore led his second touchdown drive. After two short Reggie Bush runs, Moore completed a post route down the left-sideline to Jabar Gaffney for 30-yards. This completion put the Dolphins back in the redzone. After two small gains by Daniel Thomas, Moore went back to his favorite red zone target, Anthony Fasano. Moore led Fasano to the back pylon and Fasano successfully ran a corner route for a 5-yard touchdown. Unlike their last red zone trip, Fasano was able to get two feet in bounds. Given the circumstances, Moore did an excellent job at managing the game and making plays when he needed to.
