Best Case
Richard Marshall, despite being the team's third cornerback, has had two impressive IDP seasons since entering the league. His physical style and ball skills have provided a consistent mix of tackle numbers and big plays. If Marshall finally earns a spot in the starting lineup and stays on the field for 60 snaps a game, he has a legitimate argument as the top IDP cornerback option. 75+ solo tackles with multiple big play stats are a reasonable projection.
Worst Case
In the Panthers' full squad mini-camp in May, Marshall was again behind Chris Gamble and Ken Lucas on the defensive depth chart despite being arguably the team's best corner. Marshall's snaps are likely to continue to be limited in the nickel corner role and he'll have to again make the most of his time on the field to have consistent IDP value.
Outlook
It's not reassuring that Marshall again looks to be slated for third corner duty this year. However, Marshall has been one of the most valuable corners in the league over the past two seasons in that role. Given the considerable upside that he holds and his fine production even as a third corner, he makes a solid CB1 option. If the Panthers finally decide that Marshall is worthy of a starting spot, you'll want to already have him rostered.
