2007 Game Summaries
Week 2 - Manumaleuna was used as an extra blocker but struggled. Roosevelt Colvin beat him for a sack which resulted in a Philip Rivers fumble.
Week 9 - Manumaleuna wouldn't typically get much coverage in this space, but on a day when he was the leading receiver amongst San Diego tight ends, that's pretty noteworthy. He had just one reception each in the first and second halves.
Week 12 - Manumaleuna had one catch for no gain.
Week 13 - Manumaleuna, who is typically known as the blocking tight end for the Chargers, enjoyed the rare opportunity to outperform teammate Antonio Gates. Granted, it was far easier with Gates having such a limited role in the passing game, but perhaps all the extra attention being paid to Gates could explain why Manumaleuna was able to streak down the middle of the field uncovered for a 40 yard pass play in the first half. He was thrown to just once more after that, but that play alone made him the number two receiver for the Chargers on the afternoon.
Week 15 - He only saw one ball head his way, but it turned out to be a valuable target. Off a play-action fake, Manumaleuna found himself wide open in the end zone for his first touchdown of the season. He saw more snaps than usual with starter Antonio Gates in and out of the game, but with the Chargers establishing a large lead early on, he didn't see any more looks the rest of the way.
Week 18 - Manumaleuna hauled in a critical third down reception in the flat and made a nice cut-back move against the grain to fake out the defender. It was one of only two receptions for Manumaleuna, this despite the fact that starting TE Antonio Gates left the game with a toe injury in the second quarter. Still, if Gates misses time next week, Manumaleuna has shown that he can be a factor in short yardage and goal line situations as a pass catcher.
