Best Case

Jeff King had a fine 2007 season despite the chaos at the QB position in Carolina. He appears entrenched as the starter entering the 2008 season and is entering the prime of his career. Jake Delhomme was the third-best fantasy QB in points per game last season. If he's back to top form after Tommy John surgery, King could make a bid for top-10 status among fantasy TEs this season.

Worst Case

King has a limited track record of success, and the team is switching to a power-running attack this year. There is a chance that King may be kept in to block more this year than last. The Panthers added help at the WR position during the off season, which may eat in the targets that are available for King.

Outlook

King is positioned to continue his climb up the fantasy rankings at his position. Assuming he is given the chance to play a bigger role in the passing game this year, King could be a solid TE2 in TE required leagues or a valuable player in a rotation if you are juggling two or more solid-but-not-elite TEs based on the weekly passing matchups.

2007 Game Summaries

Week 1 - King caught five passes for 35 yards. On the Panthers field goal drive in the fourth quarter, Delhomme went to King twice on third down. On the first one he picked up a first down. He was stopped just short on the next third down pass leading to the field goal.

Week 2 - King caught four passes for 39 yards. Three of his four catches resulted in first downs. Four of King's five targets came on the final drive for Carolina with the Panthers down by 14 points.

Week 3 - King was the favorite target of Delhomme. He was targeted seven times and caught four of them. He gained 56 yards and scored a touchdown on a pass that he caught right at the goal line and was able to stretch the ball across the line. King and Delhomme were starting to build good chemistry so the injury to Delhomme will be something to keep an eye on.

Week 4 - King caught one pass for 14 yards although he was targeted six times. His only pass came over the middle and he was wide open. King did have a catch for eight yards brought back on a holding call. Carr was targeting King when he was intercepted in the fourth quarter.

Week 5 - King was involved in the offense early, seeing two balls thrown his way on the second offensive possession. He caught one of the passes for a first down on the first scoring drive. His last reception resulted in a fumble that fortunately bounced right back to him.

Week 6 - King was thrown to four times and caught two short passes up the middle.

Week 8 - King was the favored target for Carolina. He was targeted 13 times, catching ten passes for 82 yards. He fumbled in the fourth quarter when Carolina had finally put together another good drive. He lost the ball at the Indianapolis 20 yard line. Carolina rarely got close to scoring so King did not have any scoring opportunities.

Week 9 - Jeff King caught two passes for 14 yards. King had been averaging six targets a game but only saw three passes thrown to him.

Week 10 - Jeff King caught two passes for 31 yards. He was thrown to five times including a deep pass in the end zone that was incomplete.

Week 11 - King was targeted seven times but only caught two of them. He picked up 13 yards on the two pass plays. King was thrown to in the end zone but the pass was incomplete.

Week 12 - Jeff King caught five passes for 36 yards. He was thrown to from the New Orleans 11 yard line but the pass was incomplete. After three straight incompletes, King went on to catch his final five targets. He picked up three first downs in the game.

Week 13 - King was targeted four times including twice in the end zone. He caught two passes for four yards including a one yard touchdown. The other pass in the end zone was incomplete. In the second quarter Testaverde hit King at the San Francisco nine yard line but he was only able to pick up three yards.

Week 14 - Jeff King had two catches for 19 yards. He was over thrown down the middle when he had a step on the defender. A better throw would have been a game tying touchdown at that time. Carolina had to settle for a field goal instead. In the fourth quarter, King caught an 11 yard pass down to the Jacksonville 19 yard line. Carolina ended up turning the ball over on downs.

Week 15 - Jeff King caught two passes for 13 yards. His first catch was for 13 yards and a first down. His second catch was after Matt Moore fumbled the snap, recovered it and then dumped the pass off to King. The play went for no gain.

Week 16 - King was very quiet in this game, and did not catch a pass.

Week 17 - King was targeted twice and finished with one reception for five yards.
