Best Case
Aaron Kampman is one of the best two-way defensive linemen in the league, combining tremendous run defense with elite pass rushing skills. Kampman have had 26 sacks in the last two years and has averaged over 50 solo tackles over the last four seasons. He has been one of the most consistent fantasy players and that is largely due to him consistently having high tackle numbers. If Kampman can maintain the same solid tackle numbers and slightly improve his sack totals, a number one DL for Kampman is possible in 2008.
Worst Case
Kampman had a career high 15 sacks in 2006, but fell off slightly last year, finishing with 11. He has had remarkably consistent tackle numbers over the last four years, but he never had double-digit sacks prior to the 2006 season. Kampman is a sure tackler and it's hard to see him falling too far down the DL rankings regardless of his peripheral numbers. Even if Kampman has a down year, he should still be a low end DL1 at worst.
Outlook
Kampman is one of the safest fantasy players there is. He has almost 300 tackles in the last four years, which is a remarkable achievement for a defensive lineman. When you factor in two years of double-digit sacks, you have a player who is a virtual lock to be a high DL1. As long as Kampman keeps putting up high tackle numbers and adds a respectable amount of sacks, he should be a safe bet to land in or close to the top five DL this year.
