Best Case

Jordan would be in for a great year this year if he could stay healthy, lost weight, got a better work ethic, and inherited a new attitude. And while we're at it, we might as well add in a trade to another team. Jordan somehow is still on the Oakland roster and has fallen out of favor after having a very solid season three years ago. Jordan has shown flashes over his career and is a dual rushing and receiving threat. The best chance Jordan has of making an impact this year probably would involve a trade to another franchise that has RB injury and depth issues. Getting released might also facilitate a positive change if he could land in a better situation.

Worst Case

The worst thing that could happen to Jordan is if he languished as the fourth running back option in Oakland all year and barely touched the football. Most teams don't have RBs making key contributions that far down the depth chart, and the other Oakland backs have been getting the praise and adulation while Jordan does not seem to be getting much love. He's been forced to pare down his contract and bonuses on more than one occasion just to stick with the team, and Oakland continues to add running backs with more upside than Jordan has. The future isn't look so bright for Jordan in Oakland.

Outlook

The problem for Jordan this year is that there is very little he can do on his part to earn a lot more playing time. The other backs in Oakland have youth and upside on their side, and for Jordan to ascend the depth chart it will have to be at the expense of others succumbing to injury. While anything is possible, that's not very likely, making Jordan's fantasy prospects limited for 2008.

2007 Game Summaries

Week 1 - The central cog of Kiffin's new Raiders offense, Jordan tallied 24 touches, posting 70 rushing yards with a 15 yard touchdown run and 89 yards receiving. Jordan seemed to be absent of the nagging injuries of last season.

Week 2 - Jordan started off the game with a 19 yard carry up the middle, setting the tone for what was going to be a very nice day from him. His longest run of the day came in overtime when he went 33 yards up the middle, which would eventually setup a game winning fieldgoal attempt. Overall Jordan carried the ball 25 times for a total of 159 yards. He showed excellent patience running behind the revamped Raider offensive line, and finished strong on most of his runs. There weren't any huge holes for him to run through, but he seemed to be able to maximize what he was given on every play. Oakland never got near the redzone, but Jordan would definitely be their goalline and short yardage option if they had. On his only target of the game, McCown badly missed him on a screen attempt that went way over his head.

Week 3 - With a heavy dose on the ground to grind out this game, Jordan was often spelled and was less involved in the passing game than usual. Jordan's long run of the day for 25 yards came on the Raiders opening drive of the fourth quarter to help extend the lead to two scores. While LaMont Jordan did score one touchdown, it was his third attempt within the two on that drive, though the Raiders did show the commitment to giving him the ball in that situation.

Week 4 - Jordan started the game as usual, and carried the ball 15 times for 74 yards. He showed great patience behind his line, and proved a load to bring down. His longest run was for 15 yards, but was not stopped behind the line and kept the ball moving forward. He was targeted twice, catching one pass for seven yards. On that last reception, he was tackled and the defender rolled over him. There didn't appear to be any evident issues as he went down, but Jordan stayed down after the tackle. After a few moments, Jordan was helped over to the sideline, with what appeared to be a lower body injury. He did not bear much if any weight, and was carted to the locker room. It was initially thought to be an ankle injury but there was also talk he'd injured his back which has been troubling him. He did not return to the game, though was on his way towards what was looking like a great game at the time.

Week 6 - Jordan returned from his back injury, but perhaps should have waited until he wasn't facing a stifling defense in San Diego. They were relentless around the football and never allowed him to get into a good running rhythm. His long gain of the day went for just six yards, with most of his carries resulting in getting stuffed right at the line of scrimmage. He did have six catches, though four of those came on the last-gasp garbage time drive to end the game. Jordan did have a scoring opportunity in the fourth quarter, but was twice stuffed at the goal line on successive plays prior to the Zach Miller touchdown catch.

Week 7 - Jordan seems to be holding on to the starting running back role. He had a tough time gaining yards on the ground against Kansas City, only collecting 29 yards, but he was his typical very effective self as a receiver out of the backfield. He caught all four passes sent his way for a nice 40 yards.

Week 8 - Jordan struggled on the ground, rushing for just 16 yards on 12 carries, and getting no targets in the passing game. He struggled to find any running room against the Tennessee front seven and seemed to be feeling the effects of his lingering back issues.

Week 9 - Jordan did not get his first touch until the second quarter of the game on a toss from Josh McCown which went 13 yards for a first down. He only seemed to see action when Justin Fargas needed a breather.

Week 10 - Jordan was active, but did not play in the game.

Week 11 - Jordan was not activated for this game.

Week 12 - Lamont Jordan complained during the week that he wished to be released as he has lost his role as a starter. Jordan is currently behind Fargas in the rotation but was still brought in for some short yardage work. He only accumulated 4 yards total on three carries but he did score one touchdown.

Week 13 - Jordan ran only once for three yards. He has become little more than an afterthought in the Raider offense.

Week 14 - Jordan only averaged 1.9 yards on his 11 carries but did contribute to the offense by grabbing four of his six targets. Nine of his rushes came after Justin Fargas left in the third quarter. His receiving numbers could have been better, but Jordan had a 26 yard reception called back due to a questionable offensive pass interference penalty called on WR Jerry Porter.

Week 16 - Yes, there was a Lamont Jordan sighting. He was targeted once -- in the red zone, no less -- and never heard from again.
