2007 Game Summaries

Week 1 - James ran hard pounding the 49ers defenders and getting many of his yards after the first hit. He finished the game with 92 yards on 26 carries and one touchdown. He caught two passes for 20 yards on first and second downs. James did not figure in the Cardinals offense, though, on third and long situations and when the Cardinals went to their three and four receiver sets.

Week 2 - James was rock steady, starting off very slowly and waiting for an opportunity to break one. Near the end of the half, he had lulled the Seahawks defense into a false sense of security when he ran for a 17 yard score. Overall, James played well. He was missing his usual starting center, and even so still surpassed a hundred yards rushing. He was not used much in the passing game (he was often spelled on third downs by Arrington or Shipp) but when called upon, caught both balls thrown to him, turning one short catch into a first down. One important note: his gains got consistently larger as the game went on.

Week 3 - James ran the ball well against a tough Baltimore run defense, but wasn't given enough carries to produce significant numbers. His 5.7 yards per attempt average was great, although a bulk of his yardage came on a 27 yard first quarter scamper. Once the Cardinals got down by multiple scores, they abandoned the running game despite James' production. His only target in the passing game came from Kurt Warner.

Week 4 - James found the running tough against a strong Steelers' front seven. His longest run of the day was just nine yards. His runs were mainly up the middle and the yardage hard earned. 18 of James' 21 carries came on first and second downs. He scored on a two yard run to tie the score 7-7.

Week 5 - James had a decent first half rushing 14 times for 54 yards and almost got a touchdown. He would be initially awarded a touchdown on a six yard running play that looked like he was down before crossing the goal line. After a review by the officials they would take the score away from James and award it to Arizona OL Reggie Wells, saying James fumbled the ball into the end zone and the score occurred on the recovery. He would get another chance to score a touchdown with the ball on the one yard line late in the first half, but he was stopped.

James was never able to break off a big gain in the game, his longest run was only 13 yards. But he got a lot of carries as the Cardinals showed a commitment to the run and, he got all the carries around the goal line. He would have 34 yards rushing in the second half, but wouldn't get another good scoring opportunity.

Week 6 - James was the Cardinals' leading rusher with 80 yards on 22 carries and one touchdown, a 23 yard scamper. He was the focus on the Cardinals' offense, since the Panthers defense didn't fear the passing game. Despite facing seven and eight men fronts, James ran with determination. On his touchdown run, he broke two tackles to the end zone. He was targeted twice out of the backfield with passes, but the timing with Rattay was off.

Week 7 - The resurgent Edgerrin James had 27 carries, but no receptions, for 83 yards, but was kept out of the end zone, giving up a couple of goalline carries to other Arizona Cardinals running backs. James had 15 carries in the first half as the Cardinals tried to control the clock.

Week 9 - Despite scoring on a three yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, James was a complete non-factor in this game rushing for only 15 yards on nine carries. He had virtually no running room against the Tampa bay rush defense and had a long run of three yards.

Week 10 - James ran hard but found the Detroit front seven difficult to penetrate, His longest run was seven yards. He caught all three passes thrown to him out of the backfield and had his usually workmanlike game.

Week 11 - James found the running unusually difficult against a Bengals rush defense ranked 27th in the league. His long run was only seven yards. He did score on a three yard run early in the second half to cap off a 24 yard drive for the Cardinals offense.

Week 12 - James found the running against the 49ers rush defense unusually tough going for only 78 yards on 17 carries. He also caught two passes for 11 yards. Many of James' runs were up the middle against a stout 49ers defense.

Week 13 - James had a good day, rushing for 114 yards, only his second 100 yard game of the season. Despite losing Anquan Boldin and not having Larry Fitzgerald for the game, the Cardinals did not commit to the run game until late in the fourth quarter to run off the clock. During this phase, the Cardinals were very successful in running James straight up the middle of the field and the Browns were unable to shut down the rushing attack.

Week 14 - James was really a non-factor in this game toting the ball only 13 times for 46 yards. His longest run was nine yards. James' stats, or lack of them, were a result of the Cardinals' offense needing to play catch up and the team running a no huddle or a four and sometimes five receiver sets.

Week 15 - James ran hard in the game finishing with 84 yards on 16 carries. He failed to find the end zone for the third consecutive game. James has scored rushing touchdowns in only two of his last six games. However, he continues to be the bulk of the Cardinals' rushing attack.

Week 16 - James found little room to run against a spirited Atlanta front seven. He finished the game with only 76 yards on 25 carries. He did contribute a little more in the passing game catching five balls for 21 yards. James' longest run was only nine yards.

Week 17 - James had a total of 136 yards of offense for the Cardinals. He finished the game with 102 yards on 24 attempts and one score, a two yard run in the third quarter. His longest run was 25 yards and ran hard and had great vision. He caught three balls out of the backfield for 34 yards.
