Best Case

Huff quietly displayed much improvement in his sophomore campaign but there remains plenty of room for growth. His 74 solo stops in '07 were respectable and he jumped from just 1 pass defended in '06 to 11 in '07. Those are positive signs but an even bigger factor for good or bad, will be his move to free safety. From a positive perspective, this should allow the Raiders to better take advantage of his speed and athleticism. The FS position in Oakland has a history of decent fantasy production and the coaching staff hopes that the new position will help Huff to regain the playmaking ability he displayed at Texas where he scored 4 defensive touchdowns in his final 2 seasons. This could be the season Huff breaks out and becomes the player/playmaker the Raiders thought they were drafting with the 7th pick in '06.

Worst Case

While he hasn't been a bust, Huff has clearly not lived up to expectations thus far in his career, Particularly in the big play department. He could be on the verge of big things but he could also be looking at his last opportunity to prove himself. After all we have already seen the organization trade another former first round DB (Fabian Washington). The release of former starter Stuart Schweigert may be a display of confidence in Huff but it's hard to call. There is a lot of potential but Huff remains a risky prospect who could be completely useless in fantasy terms.

Outlook

There is a great deal of potential with Huff which makes him a candidate to be a late round sleeper. Don't spend to much for him though. Between Kirk Morrison, Thomas Howard, Gibril Wilson and even Tommy Kelly, there is going to be a great deal of competition for tackles. Until/unless Huff proves his value in the big play columns, he'll be hard pressed to be any more than a marginal backup.
