2007 Game Summaries
Week 7 - Welcome back Priest. Holmes made a remarkable return to active status as a running back in the NFL. He had been completely out for two years since taking a vicious hit from Shawn Merriman in October of 2005. In his first action in two years, he had limited chance but he was able to provide occasional relief for Larry Johnson. That was an acceptable first game back from a serious injury.
Week 9 - During the first three quarters of the game Holmes only saw action in relief of Larry Johnson. That changed when Johnson left the game in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury. Holmes looked good catching balls out of the backfield, but did not look good rushing the ball. He was hindered by both poor run blocking by his offensive line and rust due to his lack of playing time in coming back from his neck injury.
Week 10 - Amazingly Priest Holmes is back as the starting running back for the Chiefs, at least while Larry Johnson is out with his foot injury. Holmes made his first start in 742 days and often appeared to have some of his old power and elusiveness, but he still only managed 65 yards on 20 carries for the day. He also did not interfere with the ongoing streak for consecutive rushing touchdowns that Johnson holds. He does seem to be at the very least a quite capable backup running back.
Week 11 - Priest Holmes was the focal point of the Chiefs offense for most of the game. He had seven rushes and two targets in the first quarter, and 15 rushes at the end of the half. In the first half, Holmes showed good burst and showed flashes of the Priest Holmes of old. As the game wore on, he seemed to slow down and the Colts were able to meet him before he was able to turn the corner and hold him to gains of two to three yards. He left the game with an injury after being tackled in the third quarter, but would later return.
