Best Case

Holcomb was cut by Minnesota earlier this off-season, but there's always a team willing to take a flier on a solid veteran presence. Holcomb isn't going to set the world on fire, but he has done a serviceable job at several stops in his career to this point. There's no reason to think he couldn't succeed if thrown back into the mix.

Worst Case

Well, if several quarterbacks do get injured (as they do every season), there's no guarantee that Holcomb's telephone is going to be ringing off the hook. And even if Holcomb does latch on with someone, it's extremely unlikely that he'd ever play, let alone start.

Outlook

Holcomb is unlikely to see enough meaningful playing time this season to warrant fantasy consideration. Considering he was actually on a team last year and still had next to no value, it's a difficult stretch to imagine that changing much now that he's not even on the sidelines for anyone.

2007 Game Summaries

Week 3 - Holcomb got the start in place of the injured Tarvaris Jackson. Coach Childress did not announce the starter until the day of the game, but Holcomb did practice all week with the first unit. His timing was off with his receivers on deeper throws, but he did look comfortable throwing underneath. He did go through stretches where he was indecisive, holding the ball too long. He was sacked five times largely as a direct result of his difficulty getting through his progression. He finished with 165 yards, and no touchdowns. He did miss Robert Ferguson who was wide open in the end zone, but overthrew him.

Week 4 - Kelly Holcomb played marginally better with an additional week or work with the first unit. He did make several mental mistakes during the game, including holding the ball far too long in the pocket resulting in four sacks. He also continued to miss several receivers deep, or in one instance, lead Troy Williamson out of bounds. He did hit Bobby Wade deep one pass that went for 40 yards. Otherwise, most of his success was on short passes in long yardage to go situations, or check downs to backs and tight ends.

Week 8 - Holcomb had trouble with the Philadelphia defense throughout the game. He also hurt himself with inconsistent passing. He did show nice touch on a few deep balls, as well as some shorter routes. On other plays though, he looked simply awful, under and overthrowing receivers. He also held the ball too long on several occasions and took a few hard hits during the game. The last, when he was driven to the ground head first, knocking him out of the game.
