2007 Game Summaries
Week 1 - Henry ran hard in his Broncos debut and prevented the Buffalo defense from keying on Cutler. He carried 23 times for 139 yards and added another 44 yards with three receptions. He showed no ill effects from the knee injury that kept him out of preseason games and looked to be all the Broncos had hoped he'd be. The Broncos expect a lot out of him and he seems ready to accept the challenge, although he's the seventh different RB to open for Denver in the past seven years.
Week 2 - Henry carried the ball 26 times for 128 yards. He was targeted twice in the passing game, catching both for a total of eight yards. He showed good power up the middle, with enough speed to get to the outside. He does not go down easily, and is often breaking tackles showing off his excellent stiff arm on numerous runs. He came up lame in the fourth quarter and limped over to the bench, but was able to return in the next series without any limitations.
Week 3 - Henry was unable to get into a rhythm, in part due to a very aggressive Jaguars' run defense, and in part due to not having many opportunities, although he did score a rushing touchdown. He was not involved in the passing game, with his only target thrown at his feet.
Week 4 - Henry started the game as though he was going to carry the team on his shoulders to victory, carrying the ball nine times in the first quarter and 11 times in the second quarter. His fourth carry in the third quarter saw him hobble off to the sidelines, although he did return in the fourth quarter. Henry was on the bench in the third quarter when Cutler scored on the QB sneak. The ankle injury was considered mild and not a factor going forward.
Week 5 - Just a few days after reports surfaced that Henry could be suspended for one year, he started the Week 5 game. He ran fairly well early on, but his carries soon dwindled as Denver fell further and further behind in the game. He wasn't active in the passing game at all, as Selvin Young saw the majority of the receiving touches from the running back spot. And Denver never got close enough to the end zone to give Henry any scoring chances. For what it's worth, HC Mike Shanahan seems content to run Henry as much as possible right now because it's unclear how long he'll have him after this week. Henry got 16 of the team's 17 running back carries in the game.
Week 7 - Henry had a decent game considering the tough match up, but was forced to leave the game in the third quarter with bruised ribs. He had a hard time finding holes in Pittsburgh's tough 3-4 alignment. The new faces on the offensive line didn't seem to either help or hurt him.
Week 9 - Henry struggled to find running room for most of the game. His first seven carries netted only nine yards. Henry then broke loose with a 22 yard burst to the Detroit five yard line, but was shaken up on the play. He returned to the game, but had only one more attempt for no gain.
Henry caught both his targets for 13 yards.
Week 13 - Henry returned from injury and played for the first time since week nine. He had modest success, gaining 49 yards on fifteen carries. Henry did score his second and third touchdowns of the season. His longest gain was for nine yards.
Henry dropped both of his targets. The second drop may have been intentional after Cutler dumped the ball off to him with time winding down. Henry did not have much room to run and would likely have been tackled in bounds.
Week 14 - This had to have been an especially sweet game for Travis Henry. During the week he saw the upcoming suspension by the league for drug abuse reversed and he now knows he will not miss any time. He participated in this game as backup to Selvin Young but he still managed to score the only rushing touchdown for the Broncos. He remains a productive running back in the Denver system whether he is the backup or co-starter in the future.
Week 15 - Henry made his first appearance of the game on the second drive for Denver. In the fourth quarter, Henry was hit and remained on the ground in apparent pain. He did not return.
Week 16 - Henry was a complete afterthought in this game, seeing just four total carries in the game and not receiving a single look in the passing game. He also completely fanned on a block attempt of Clinton Hart on a vicious sack of Jay Cutler. And just to make matters worse, when the Broncos finally got to the goal line, it was Cecil Sapp, not Henry, who received the goal line carries. About the only positive that can be taken from the game for Henry owners is the fact that Sapp failed to get into the end zone either time.
