Best Case

Henderson has wowed NFL fans with his burning speed and gaudy yards-per-reception averages since exploding for 745 yards on only 32 catches two years ago. He declined to 409 yards on 20 catches last year but still averaged over 20 yards per reception. If he can start catching more balls than he drops (he had 42 chances last year), Henderson could be a guy to start as your WR3 based on his single-game boom potential. When he hauls in a pass, they tend to go for a lot of yards (he had TD receptions of 45 and 37 yards last year and one 52-yarder that didn't find the end-zone).

Worst Case

Henderson is a role player with the Saints right now, seeing relatively few chances to catch the ball (he averaged only 2.63 passes per game last year). If he doesn't earn a lot more chances during 2008, he'll be too inconsistent to warrant starting for most fantasy clubs. There simply won't be any way to predict which week he'll post enough fantasy points to be a worthwhile starter.

Outlook

Henderson is entering his fourth season in the NFL and should be a seasoned veteran now in the prime of his career. Depending on how the depth chart shakes out during training camp, Henderson could be an intriguing WR3 for fantasy owners or a waste of roster space. We think he's a guy to keep on your radar but don't get overly excited about Henderson unless he can crack the starting lineup this year.

2007 Game Summaries

Week 1 - Henderson caught a meaningless 23 yard pass with less then one minute in the game; this was the Saints longest play of the game. Before that he had two passes for 11 yards and was pretty much a non-factor in the game.

Week 2 - Henderson had two targets on the first drive, but had a clear drop on the second attempt. Brees never really looked his way for the remainder of the game as Henderson finished with just three targets, and no receptions.

Week 3 - Henderson continues to be nearly invisible in this offense.

Week 5 - Henderson was the number one target for Drew Brees in the second half. He did have an apparent touchdown called back in the third quarter when the officials ruled that he went out of bounds at the two yard line on a 54 yard completion. The Saints did score two plays later. Henderson also dropped two very catchable passes.

Week 6 - Henderson saw a couple of deep looks. One he dropped, the other was over thrown. Henderson didn't start the game as he was demoted to second string while Lance Moore was moved up to the first team.

Week 7 - Henderson made the most of his one target catching it for a score. Henderson was penalized following his touchdown, and did not receive another pass all game.

Week 8 - Henderson made one nifty sideline grab for a first down, but otherwise went unnoticed. With Patten playing so well and the Saints playing with a comfortable lead, Henderson was not even targeted in the second half.

Week 9 - Henderson was not involved much in the game. He was thrown to deep once, and that pass was overthrown.

Week 11 - Henderson was not involved much in the game. He made the most of his only target, catching the pass for a touchdown.

Week 12 - Henderson got one look and he made it count. Brees hit him deep down field for a 33 yard gain. The catch put the ball at the Carolina 23 yard line. Three plays later, the Saints scored to take an 11 point lead.

Week 13 - Henderson had one pass thrown his way, and was able to come down with a 45 yard touchdown reception on third down for his only catch of the ball game.

Week 14 - Henderson had a tough night, as he dropped a couple of easy passes. He did make one catch for 32 yards.

Week 16 - Devery Henderson makes frustrating plays. On the first play from scrimmage he burned the Eagle defender deep on a 52 yard catch that gave the Saints the ball on the 14. Later, he dropped two very catchable passes that would have sustained drives. The last target was when he had both hands on the ball but coughed it up when he was hit coming down. The ball popped out and into the hands of a defender.
