Outlook
Between a late start, injuries and a suspension, Hartley has yet to kick a full season in his four year NFL career. He missed last year with a hip injury, but is reportedly fully recovered. When playing he’s done quite well, from an 85.7% career field goal percentage (would be good for sixth all-time in the NFL) to a kick to send his team to the Super Bowl. Nonetheless, he had to compete to retain his job. John Kasay filled in last year, did well, and in a slightly surprising move was re-signed in late April. Hartley will again work with Thomas Morstead (punting, kickoffs and holding) and long snapper Justin Drescher. The Saints have bounced in and out of the top ten, ranking 2nd, 11th, 4th, and 14th in attempted kicking points the past four years. The big question for 2012 is how will Bounty-gate impact the teams psyche, production, and kicker scoring.
