Best Case
Chris Harris exploded in 2008 after his acquisition in a late preseason trade to become a top IDP option as Carolina's strong safety. He proved to be a very physical player over the middle and created a number of big plays to boost his stats. Despite Jon Beason's stellar play in the middle, Harris was still able to put up 76 solo tackles, which suggests he's a stable DB1 option again this season.
Worst Case
Harris got a significant bump in the rankings from the eight fumbles he forced last season and three fumble recoveries. He'll again be forced to battle Beason for tackles, but will now have to compete with improved play out of the weak side linebacker position, either Landon Johnson or a combination of Beason and Dan Connor, if the rookie makes it into the lineup. If Harris falls under 70 solos, he may drop precipitously in the rankings, since he's unlikely to total the same number of big play stats this season.
Outlook
Harris proved his solid play as an injury replacement in Chicago was no fluke last season and has the kind of physical skills that make a solid IDP strong safety option. His value may be volatile this season since his 2007 value was buoyed by his well above-average big play stats, but he should be a safe DB2 option at least.
