Best Case
Cedric Griffin is one of the best tackling CBs in the league and finished the 2007 season with 92 tackles, including 82 solos. Griffin did not have an interception last year and his ball skills are average at best. The Vikings Tampa-2 defense requires CBs to be physical and sure tacklers and Griffin fits the bill in that department. If Griffin can maintain his high tackle numbers and find a way to add a few big plays in coverage, he could find his way to the low DB1 range this year.
Worst Case
Griffin is a solid tackling CB, but he rarely makes any plays in coverage and is below average in pass defense. The Vikings have one of the best defenses in the NFL and with their great running game, the defense could see a limited number of snaps. Griffin's fantasy production is dependent on tackles and those numbers could suffer if the defensive snaps are limited. If Griffin's tackle numbers drop and he does not add some big plays, he could fall to the DB3 range this year.
Outlook
Griffin is a solid CB who is a perfect fit in the Tampa-2 defense that the Vikings use. He is a sure tackler and should benefit by the addition of safety Madieu Williams. Griffin may see a decline in his tackle numbers if the Vikings defense improves as many believe it will. Griffin is entering his third season and figures to show improvement in coverage and if he can add some big plays, he should be able to stay in the mid to low end DB2 range.
