2012 Game Summaries

Week 4 - Fells caught one pass early, off of play action wide open in the flat, but was missed with his other target and didn't really become a factor as a receiver.

Week 5 - With Aaron Hernandez still on the sidelines, Fells had more chances than usual to produce. Unfortunately, Fells dropped a wide open pass that had the makings of a long catch-and-run. His other target came in tight coverage where Brady missed him on the deep route.

Week 12 - Daniel Fells did an admirable job filling in for the injured Rob Gronkowski. Fells spent the majority of the game setting the edges for Patriot runners. Fells secured his lone reception during the second half. On a 1st-and-10 play from New York’s 35-yard line, Fells ran a deep drag route and secured a 24-yard gain. Fells ran a crisp route and Brady hit him in stride.

Week 13 - Fells was more involved in the passing game with Rob Gronkowski out of the lineup. His best chance for production came on his first target of the game. Brady targeted Fells down the seam. It was a tough, but not impossible play that few tight ends in the league could make. Fells made a diving attempt, but was unable to have a good shot at the ball. Later, Fells drew a defensive pass interference penalty on a short target. His last offensive impact came on a holding penalty inside the Patriots 20-yard line. It brought back a successful running play and ultimately stopped the drive with a punt. Outside of Hernandez, Fells may be the most valuable tight end in New England while Gronkowski recovers, but that is unlikely to lead to any fantasy relevance.

Week 16 - Fells caught his lone target this week as Rob Gronkowski’s absence opened the door for more than his usual playing time. His reception came late in the second quarter on a quick hitch, allowing no room for yards after the catch.
