2007 Game Summaries
Week 4 - Dilfer struggled mightily all afternoon, averaging less than four yards per passing attempt, and completing just 36% of his passes. Dilfer was also sacked five times and fumbled the ball twice (losing one) in addition to his two interceptions. The 49ers did however have three completed receptions called back due to offensive penalties.
Week 5 - Starting for an injured Alex Smith, Trent Dilfer completed 12 of 19 passes for 126 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. Dilfer lead an impressive drive in the third quarter, capping it off with a beautifully thrown ball to Arnaz Battle for a 23 yard touchdown between two defenders. Up until that point and going forward, he was mainly content handing the ball off to Frank Gore, and throwing short passes. On his touchdown throw he showed a strong arm, but overall it was clear the coaching staff did not want to put the game in his hands. He ran the ball once for four yards.
Week 7 - Dilfer was put under constant pressure for most of the day being forced into two interceptions and fumbling the ball twice as well. He completed 23 of 38 passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns. His second touchdown of the game came in the final seconds of the game as he hooked up with Darrell Jackson to make the score a little more respectable.
Week 11 - In completing just 47.6 percent of his passes and averaging just 5.5 yards per passing attempt, Dilfer finished with a 44.8 passer rating. Nearly 60% of Dilfer's passing yards came in the fourth quarter of the game as Dilfer tried unsuccessfully to bring the 49ers back.
Week 12 - Dilfer had an efficient game and did not throw an INT. He tossed touchdown passes to Vernon Davis (2 yards) and Arnaz Battle (57 yards). He avoided the Cardinal rush and looked comfortable at times throwing the ball down field and on target. He took the 49ers on scoring drives of 32, 18, 6, 88 and 70 yards. He was sacked three times, and had one scramble for 10 yards.
Week 13 - Trent Dilfer played a terrible game throwing four interceptions. His final numbers were 14 of 29 for 171 yards and two touchdowns. Dilfer threw two first half interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown. In the fourth quarter, he threw two more interceptions. Neither second half interception led to a Carolina score but it killed any momentum San Francisco had built from Dilfer's two third quarter touchdown passes.
Week 14 - Dilfer was unable to do anything against the Vikings defense. He was under consistent pressure, and generally unable to get anything going the entire first half. The first play of the game for the 49ers was a tipped ball that Kevin Williams intercepted and returned for a touchdown. The rest of the half did not get much better. Dilfer finally had the 49ers driving near the end of the first half. Down 27-0 already, and facing a fourth down near the end zone, the 49ers went for it. Dilfer was unable to find a receiver and scrambled from the pocket. His head collided with a defenders shoulder pad on a clean hit, but his neck jerked back, and he was helped off the field. He did not return.
