Best Case

Ronald Curry has endured countless coaches, quarterbacks, offensive schemes, and injuries in his time with the Raiders, and with some stability in all those areas he could finally have a breakout season that could result in Curry having value as a fantasy starter. He's shown flashes, even stretches, of being a very skilled and competent receiver. Yet he's never been able to have opportunity, health, and production in tandem over a full season. That could all change this year with a new look Raiders offense, one that has made strides to add speed, depth, and playmakers.

Worst Case

Health has always been a concern for Curry, and the Raiders have added a lot of talented skill players that could cut into Curry's playing time. There are so many new pieces to the Oakland puzzle, though, that there's a decent chance that the chemistry of the offense just isn't there yet and there may be some pretty serious growing pains. Teams comprised of green quarterbacks, newly acquired players, and starting key rookies have high ceilings but low floors and all points in between are in the bandwidth in terms of production. One nagging or serious injury and Curry's chances of hitting the big time will fall by the way side for another season.

Outlook

A healthy Curry is on track to have a career year. He played every game the past two seasons and may have kicked the injury bug. JaMarcus Russell has the best skills of any quarterback Curry has played with to date and can only help Curry's chances of expanding Curry's stat totals. Compared to prior years, the Raiders offense looks to be improving and with defenses having to worry about many other weapons, Curry should see looser coverage and should be able to exploit defenders and get open more frequently. He's flying a bit under the radar and would make for a solid mid round draft day selection.

2007 Game Summaries

Week 1 - Curry had a huge game, establishing himself as McCown's top option, posting ten receptions for 133 yards, including a four yard touchdown reception. Curry did not seem slowed by previous injuries in this game.

Week 2 - Curry was able to bring down two of his five targets, for a total of 12 yards. He took in an end around from McCown in which it appeared as though he was going to pass the ball, but his target wasn't open and wisely threw the ball away. Call it poor QB play, or the fact that Champ Bailey was in coverage on him for much of the day. Either way, Curry struggled to make an impact in this game. The one positive for Curry was catching the two point conversion on Oakland's second touchdown of the game to put them up by three at the time.

Week 3 - Curry was targeted successfully a number of times by Josh McCown early in the game, though became less involved with Daunte Culpepper in the game. Curry had an opportunity to add a second touchdown, but was clearly held by the Browns defender to prevent the score.

Week 4 - Curry was targeted three times, and caught one pass for 16 yards. With the passing game not a priority, Curry did not make much of an impact. On his only reception of the game, Curry took the ball away from a defender on what looked to be a sure interception on a poor decision by Culpepper. On his two other targets, Curry could not come down with two tough catches on the sideline, one of which in the endzone.

Week 6 - Curry had a solid game but it could have been far better if he could have gained just one more yard. He hauled in a very nice catch with his fingertips on a deep ball from Daunte Culpepper late in the first half. He took the ball towards the goal line and was seemingly about to score when he was abruptly knocked out of bounds at the one yard line by CB Quentin Jammer. The Raiders failed to get in on either of the next two plays, instead fumbling the ball away (Daunte Culpepper) and costing themselves any chance of scoring.

Week 7 - Curry appears to be the favorite wide receiver for Oakland. He caught four of the eight passes Culpepper aimed at him, accumulating 45 yards and one touchdown. Curry had a couple drops where he could have picked up substantial game breaking yardage. He also received a delay of the game penalty after getting upset and spiking the ball.

Week 8 - Curry was targeted seven times, catching three passes for 45 yards and no scores.

Week 9 - Curry made a stunning juggling catch in the first quarter but the play ended up in a violent collision with rookie DB Fred Bennett. He returned to the game quickly despite the viciousness of the incident.

Week 10 - Curry caught three passes for 20 yards on six targets.

Week 11 - Curry got off to a hot start in this game catching his first two targets for a total of 95 yards. His first grab went for 46 yards as he took the ball down to the Minnesota six yard line. Curry's next reception was a highlight reel grab that went for 49 yards. On the play, the Oakland wide out was tightly sandwiched between two Vikings defenders but was somehow able to leap up and bring down the ball despite getting his helmet ripped off. On his next target, Curry was unable to catch a Daunte Culpepper fastball down by the goal line that hit him in the hands. His next two catches went for eight and 17 yards respectively. As good as his first half was, Curry would get shutout in the second half. His only target over the last two quarters came on a Culpepper pass that ended the game.

Week 12 - Curry was Culpepper's favorite target catching six of the eight passes thrown to him but they were for only 39 yards on short passes with little ground gained after the catches. He was unable to ever break free for big gains.

Week 13 - Curry had two seven yard grabs and a 20 yard catch. He was targeted on a bomb thrown up for grabs in the end zone. Curry was able to get his hands on the ball, but was unable to come down with the pass.

Week 14 - Curry's first touch of the game came on a backward pass that he took for a one yard gain. His first reception went for 29 yards, but it did not come until there was 8:26 left in the third quarter. Curry's only other catch went for 19 yards and came on a third and 13 play in the fourth quarter. He was the intended receiver on Josh McCown's second interception.

Week 15 - Ronald Curry caught three of his five targets for 23 yards and a touchdown. Two passes were thrown high to let him jump up and try to make the catch over the defensive back.

In High School, Curry excelled in both football and basketball and was a member of Dean Smith's last recruiting class at North Carolina.

Week 16 - Curry was able to catch a couple of short passes, as well as a two-point conversion.

Week 17 - Curry saw few passes head his way, and didn't even record his first catch until there were six minutes remaining in the entire game. He did draw a long pass interference penalty on CB Drayton Florence to help set up the Dominic Rhodes touchdown.
