Game Summaries
Week 4 at CHI - Daunte Culpepper came in for the injured Matthew Stafford in Week 4. Stafford hurt his knee in the fourth quarter so Culpepper came in and played respectably, but the game was already decided by the point of the game where he entered. Culpepper's value is only if Stafford is held out next week against Pittsburgh.Week 5 vs PIT - Daunte Culpepper stepped in to start for Matthew Stafford against the Steelers in Week 5. He showed good speed when running out of the pocket, something he had to do quite often with LB James Harrison speeding in his direction on several occasions. Culpepper threw well and spread the ball to nine different receivers, a fact unfortunately helped some by the loss of Calvin Johnson to injury early in the contest. Culpepper still tends to hold the ball a little too long and also overthrew some open targets, but overall he did quite well against a tough opponent. Culpepper is likely to start again next week (at Green Bay) to buy Matthew Stafford two weeks off thanks to Detroit's Week 7 bye.
Week 6 at GB - Culpepper started for the injured Matt Stafford was completely ineffective, having a forgettable effort vs. the Packers in week 6. Daunte had a rough start (misreading a screen pass and throwing an INT on the teams first offensive drive) and was never able to get the Lions offense in gear. The list of reasons for the poor showing were plenty: lack of line support, injuries to key offensive players, and an ineffective running game. Culpepper pulled up lame after a 3rd quarter scramble and left thereafter with a hamstring injury. The Lions are off next week and it remains to be seen who will lead the them after the bye with the injuries piling up.
