2007 Game Summaries
Week 1 - Cooley had a surprisingly quiet game, only catching one of his targets. He was Campbell's first look in the game, but the pass was intercepted by Reynaldo Hill. Cooley's only catch came on the Redskins' game winning drive in overtime.
Week 2 - Cooley was targeted early in the game with three balls thrown his way on the first drive but, he and QB Jason Campbell failed to connect on any of them. Cooley caught a 16 yard touchdown pass when he beat S Brian Dawkins late in the second quarter. The touchdown was Cooley's only catch of the first half. His only other catch didn't come until the fourth quarter but, it was a big nine yard reception that got a first down and put Washington in field goal range. Philadelphia did a pretty good job of covering Cooley most of the game.
Week 3 - Cooley brought down three of his five looks for 18 yards and a score. His touchdown came on a nine yard reception where he found a pocket near the front of the end zone and camped out to haul in Campbell's touchdown strike. Excluding his touchdown catch, all other targets were on roll outs where he was open in the flat.
Week 5 - Cooley had a very productive day, hauling in four passes for 26 yards. The real production came in the form of a seven yard TD catch in the second quarter and a two point conversion catch in the fourth quarter.
Week 6 - QB Jason Campbell looked to Cooley often early on in this contest. The tight end hauled in four receptions in the first quarter that went for 55 yards. Cooley followed that up with three more catches in the second quarter that went for 42 yards, including a 14 yard touchdown reception. After being targeted eight times in the first half, Campbell only looked in Cooley's direction twice in the second half. He caught both of those receptions for a total of eight yards. Cooley finished the game with a career high in receiving yards.
Week 7 - Cooley was not a factor against the Arizona Cardinals, posting just one catch for three yards on only two targets. Like most of his teammates in week seven the offense just wasn't there against an improving Cardinal defense.
Week 8 - Cooley was Campbell's second most favored target. He had the best fantasy game of any Redskins' receiver, due to his touchdown catch in fourth quarter garbage time.
Week 9 - Cooley was Campbell's second most favored target. He led the team in receiving yards, and showed a good ability to break tackles after the catch.
Week 10 - Cooley caught most of his targets for small to medium gains.
Week 11 - Chris Cooley produced eight catches for 89 yards and one touchdown. On the first drive of the game Jason Campbell found Cooley twice for 35 yards, one of which was his 19 yard score. Appearing to benefit from the added attention Santana Moss gets on the outside, Cooley frequently worked the middle of the field, and Campbell was confident in him making the difficult catch in coverage. He was targeted ten times in the game.
Week 12 - Chris Cooley was targeted 11 times and finished with six receptions for 96 yards and a 39 yard touchdown reception. He continued to be a reliable target for his young quarterback.
Week 13 - Eleven of Cooley's 12 targets came in the first half. He had a great half, and then Campbell inexplicably went away from him. Nevertheless, Cooley still led the team in targets, receptions, and receiving yards.
Week 14 - Cooley was QB Jason Campbell's favorite target early on and caught a 23 yard pass in the second quarter. He finished the first half as the Redskins leading receiver catching three balls for 40 yards. Cooley appeared to injure his lower leg late in the first half and limped off to the locker room before the first half ended. Cooley did return to the game at the start of the second half. He caught a big pass over the middle at the beginning of the fourth quarter for a 33 yard gain. He would come back with another big play as he caught a pass for 20 yards. Cooley led the Redskins in receiving with 93 yards and was big part of the offense in this game.
Week 15 - Cooley was only able to bring in two of the nine balls thrown his way, gaining only 34 yards on the windy night.
Week 16 - Cooley was fairly uninvolved in the offense for the majority of the game, but he did catch a 33 yard touchdown over the middle of the field against single coverage in the first quarter. He was only able to catch one of the five balls thrown his way, but he made it count.
Week 17 - Cooley caught several short to medium length balls to finish second on the team in catches and yardage. He caught all five of his targets.
Week 18 - Chris Cooley caught five of his nine targets for 46 yards, with no touchdowns. Cooley started the game off slow only having two receptions for six yards through the first half, but got things going in the second half with a beautiful one handed grab for 20 yards. Overall it was still a disappointing game for the talented tight end, with two key drops.
