2007 Game Summaries
Week 1 - Coles had a big game Sunday pulling in seven of his nine targets for 56 yards and two scores. He seemed to be Chad Pennington's go-to receiver as evident by his second touchdown catch of the game from the Jets signal caller. On a first and goal from the one yard line, Pennington threw a stop-fade to Coles, which was bobbled and broken up for an incomplete pass. The very next play was a second and goal in which Pennington called Coles number again, hitting him on the same pattern, for a one yard score.
Week 2 - Coles led the team in targets, but also seemed to bear a disproportionate brunt of Clemens' inaccurate passes. He was frequently trying to either scoop a low pass off the turf or snag a high target out of the sky. Coles was the target on Clemens' first interception of the game. He was thrown to eight times in the fourth quarter (including one look in the end zone), but many of these were off the mark.
Week 3 - Coles caught three passes for 30 yards, including a three yard touchdown grab in the first quarter to open the scoring. With the Jets never trailing in the game, the offense stayed conservative and relied more on Thomas Jones to grind out the victory.
Week 4 - Coles hauled in eight passes for sixty five yards. He caught a short five yard fade in heavy traffic for Chad Pennington's only touchdown of the game. Coles was featured mostly on shorter routes and had a long gain of 18 yards. He made a particularly nice grab on the penultimate play of the first half, when Chad Pennington faked spiking the ball and threw a quick pass to Coles. The pass was slightly off target and Coles had to stretch out over a defender to corral it.
Week 5 - Coles had a solid day hauling in eight of his 12 targets for 89 yards. He made some beautiful jump ball catches on passes thrown by quarterback Chad Pennington, seemingly getting up over every Giants defender to bring the ball in at its highest point.
Week 6 - Coles saw a team high seven total targets come his way, as he hauled in only one of them for a 27 yard gain. He dropped a pass wide open early in the game as the Jets were driving down field.
Week 7 - Coles had a huge day against Cincinnati. He was targeted 15 out of 34 times Pennington threw the ball. Coles showed his ability to split defenses by splitting two defenders after he caught a short pass and going for a touchdown.
Week 8 - Coles, who was clearly not himself today, saw only three targets and was able to bring in one of his three looks for 13 total yards. On his only catch of the game, Coles was buried into the turf and was clearly shaken up on the play. He was however, able to walk off under his own power.
Week 9 - Coles missed his first game in seven seasons with lingering effects from a concussion.
Week 11 - On the second play of the game, Coles caught a 56 yard flea flicker and was tackled at the Pittsburgh one yard line. In the second quarter he took himself out of the game and limped to the lockerrom. He returned briefly in the third quarter, but then remained on the sideline with what was called a sprained ankle.
Week 13 - Coles was the most frequently targeted Jets on the day as he saw seven looks his way and was able to convert five of them for 69 yards. He was open frequently and seemed to have that burst after the catch back.
Week 14 - Coles averaged less than seven yards per catch, and while able to get open, was unable to shake tacklers in this game, with a twelve yard gain representing his biggest play of the day. Coles left briefly in this game before returning.
Week 15 - Coles started the game, however in the first quarter was seen heading back to the locker room. He did not return to action in the cold and rain.
