Best Case
Carter carried the excellent numbers he was producing during the second half of 2006 into 2007. Still well within the prime of his career at age 29, Carter looks a safe bet to again hit the 40-10 plateau and land among the top twelve overall defensive linemen.
Worst Case
Though Carter has put together an extended stretch of consistency over the past two seasons, he has struggled over 3-4 week periods often in his career. Should new defensive coordinator make some subtle changes to the alignment and responsibilities of the defensive linemen, Carter could be slow to adjust. Still, it's hard to project a major decline in numbers this year.
Outlook
All signs point to another productive season for Carter. Firmly settled into an every down 4-3 end role with a new defensive coordinator who has said his defense will look much like the previous scheme, Carter should remain a very solid DL1 value in all setups. Even if the defensive philosophy changes slightly and Carter starts slowly, a little patience will likely be rewarded with Carter.
