Outlook
At least the Dolphins have stability where it matters – the specialists. Entering camps for the third straight year, long snapper John Denney, punter Brandon Fields and kicker Dan Carpenter are the only players at their respective positions on the roster. All three had been signed to contract extensions in 2010. Carpenter comes off two consecutive busy years in terms of field goal attempts, trying 41 and 34. He also connected from long range both years – 60 and 58 yards. After a seven year absence, the Dolphins ranked in the top ten in attempted kicking points the past two years, including 9th last year. Unlike the specialists, the rest of the team that sets up their opportunities is in transition. It starts at the top with new head coach Joe Philbin, who’ll be assisted by new offensive coordinator Mike Sherman, who could be overseeing a rookie as the new starting quarterback. Another top ten finish appears to be in jeopardy.
