Best Case
Jason Campbell is developing into a solid NFL quarterback, without threatening to approach any of the leading statistics at his position. He is almost assured of the starting job in 2011 after overcoming a bumpy start last year and has an array of young receivers at his disposal. One of the biggest weapons Campbell has at his disposal is a strong running game, ensuring Campbell isn't forced to win too many games on his own. A nice bonus for Campbell owners, is his ability to accrue rushing yardage, with the odd rusing TD as well.
Worst Case
Jason Campbell was replaced twice as starter last season by Bruce Gradkowski and there is strong starting experience in reserve, in the shape of Kyle Boller and Trent Edwards. Campbell has only had two 3 TD games in his career to date and rarely records multiple passing TD games. He will be a handy reserve for your fantasy roster, but will be a liability should he have to start on a regular basis. Statistically he has also shown limited improvement since his rookie season in 2006 and is easily replaceable should the Raiders tire of his limitations.
Outlook
It's now or never for Jason Campbell. The Raiders offense is progressing nicely and moving towards one of the best in the league. The running game is already there, but the offense needs improvement from the quarterback and receivers to help the Raiders if they have genuine playoff aspirations. At 30 years of age he should be at his peak and those looking for an offense on the way up, can do worse than look at Jason Campbell as a nice reserve. He is capable of spot duty as a fantasy starter, but has yet to show he can be an elite passing threat.
Why he is undervalued
according to one of our writers (based on an ADP > 250 on Aug 17 --- go here for the complete article)Jeff Tefertiller - It is hard to believe, but this is the first time Campbell has enjoyed working with the same Offensive Coordinator for consecutive seasons. He gets youngsters Jacoby Ford and Darren McFadden to target in the open field. Campbell will have some big games as the Raiders are expected to play from behind a lot. While the ex-Redskin is not Tom Brady or Peyton Manning, he will surprise many this season.
Why he is a good deep sleeper pick
according to two of our writers --- go here for the complete articleDavid Dodds - The Oakland QBs passed for 3,471 yards and 18 TDs in 2010. With little to no competition, Jason Campbell might finally be able to reach his potential in Oakland.
Jeff Pasquino - Once the Top 15-18 quarterbacks are gone, the depth of the QB2 pool gets pretty darn shallow. The nice things about Jason Campbell are that he has playmakers at wide receiver in Jacoby Ford, Louis Murphy and even rookie Denarius Moore who can all score on any reception from anywhere on the field. The loss of TE Zach Miller does hurt, but Kevin Boss can step in and provide decent value there. Darren McFadden and Michael Bush also offer good receiving options out of the backfield. Campbell is the unquestionable starter for the Raiders with no viable options behind him, making him a high upside QB2 this year.Latest News
NFL | Jason Campbell might have plenty of suitors (Fri Feb 10, 09:31 PM) - Oakland Raiders QB Jason Campbell (collarbone), who is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent March 13, might have plenty of suitors. He is not expected to return to the Raiders, and the Denver Broncos are unlikely to sign him. However, the market might be good for Campbell with fellow pending free agents New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees and San Francisco 49ers QB Alex Smith expected to stay where they are. '(Drew) Brees is going to re-sign. So is (Alex) Smith. There's only one (QB Peyton Manning) to go around, and just one (QB Matt Flynn) out there,' one NFL executive said. 'That doesn't leave a lot. Maybe I'm crazy, but I think (Campbell) will get some interest. Maybe not a ton, but he'll have some people calling.' Our View: Campbell is unlikely to be handed a starting job, but could be added to a team like Kansas City to provide competition for the starter.link to story Bears | Could show interest in three QBs this offseason (Mon Feb 6, 05:34 PM) - The Chicago Bears could show interest in Kansas City Chiefs impending free-agent QB Kyle Orton, Oakland Raiders impending free-agent QB Jason Campbell and free-agent QB David Garrard (Jaguars) this offseason. Our View: Not surprising news here. We don't think Orton would be a serious candidate because he feels that he can still be an effective starter in the league. Any free agent QB Chicago adds has to know they won't start unless Jay Cutler is injured.
link to story Cowboys | Could show interest in several backup QB options (Mon Feb 6, 01:10 PM) - The Dallas Cowboys could show interest in Oakland Raiders impending free-agent QB Jason Campbell, Detroit Lions impending free-agent QB Shaun Hill, Minnesota Vikings impending free-agent QB Sage Rosenfels and free-agent QB David Garrard (Jaguars) this offseason. Our View: The Cowboys just don't seem comfortable with Stephen McGee as the primary backup behind Tony Romo. They'll bring in competition for McGee and during training camp we'll see how the pecking order is established.
link to story Broncos | Unlikely to pursue Jason Campbell (Sat Feb 4, 12:03 PM) - The Denver Broncos likely will not pursue Oakland Raiders impending free-agent QB Jason Campbell this offseason because he is looking an opportunity to start and the Broncos have QB Tim Tebow as their starter entering next season. Our View: The Broncos could look to free agent QBs like Josh Johnson (Buccaneeers) or Dennis Dixon (Steelers).

2011 Game Summaries
Week 1 - Jason Campbell did his job, which was to not turn the ball over and ensure the win. He did uncork a nice deep ball to Darrius Heyward-Bey, who couldn't reel it in in-bounds. Campbell gave up a fumble on a sack early to set up the Broncos deep in Raiders territory, but the defense held Denver to a field goal. Campbell took what the defense gave him when he attempted passes, and never pressed the issues, often choosing to just throw the ball away. He did notch two TDs, both cheapies. One QB sneak after Darren McFadden ran it to the one, and one short pass to fullback Marcel Reece after McFadden marched the team down a short field after a tipped punt. He is pedestrian for fantasy, but holding down his job by playing it safe.
Week 2 - After a slow start, Campbell wound up having a very efficient game as he threw for more than 300 yards, was not sacked, and accounted for three touchdowns. The only blemish on the day for him really was an interception that came on a Hail Mary pass on the last play of the game, which was almost converted for a touchdown. Despite playing without his top three receivers and starting TE, Campbell still had one of his best days as a Raider. The offensive line gave him good protection in the pocket and he remained calm in the pocket whenever the Bills were able to generate some pressure. The highlight of the game came on a beautifully thrown 50-yard touchdown pass to rookie WR Denarius Moore who went up and brought it down despite tight coverage from a corner and safety. While the Bills defense may not rank among the league's best, it was still an impressive performance on the road and possibly a sign of better things to come when he gets some better weapons around him.
Week 3 - Jason Campbell had a quiet day as the Jets' secondary was able to contain his receivers and allow only the occasional big play in the passing game. Campbell also felt pressure, though he was only sacked once. He was only really asked to manage the game and didn't do more than that, getting the ball to his receivers 66% of the time. He was accurate, didn't turn the ball over and with Darren McFadden torching the Jets' defense, nothing more was required of him. It was a pretty vanilla game where nothing much stood out--bad or good--in his effort.
Week 4 - What an up and down day for Campbell on Sunday. He made several nice throws and found a red zone/go-to guy in TE Kevin Boss. This gives Campbell a similar style player as Cowboys TE Jason Whitten. Boss may not be the same caliber as Whitten but could be heavily involved in this offense in Oakland. But the two INT's Campbell threw were both on the New England side of the field. The first one was at the goal line, where he was trying to throw the ball away and did not see S Patrick Chung, who was wearing a cast on his hand, and was still able to intercept it. This was a huge play and turned the momentum to the New England side, which stayed with them until the end of the game. The second INT was not much better as Campbell threw a dump off pass to McFadden and did not see DT Vince Wilfork (all 350+ pounds of him). The good news for this game is that Campbell looked a bit more comfortable back there and was able to reach 300 yards passing. With this game a lot of the problems on offense were the erratic plays by the young WR core. Campbell will also need to cut down on those careless interceptions as they were the difference in the game today.
