Best Case
Brian Calhoun has yet to showcase the skill he displayed at Wisconsin in 2005 before being drafted by the Lions in 2006. He has speed, moves and is an excellent receiver. The good news regarding his injured knee is that it didn't require further surgery. With only a third-round rookie and the temperamental Tatum Bell in front of him, he could see the field and be able to display his wares as the Lions reintroduce a running game in 2008.
Worst Case
Calhoun has been in the league two years and twice ended up on injured reserve with a torn ACL in the same knee. If his knee is still bothering him, Calhoun will be lucky to produce a decent fantasy game let alone a fantasy season. If Calhoun is fit, then he'll be the No. 3 at best. Tatum Bell was resigned and Kevin Smith drafted in the third round this year. Either way a lot needs to happen before he should be considered a viable fantasy option.
Outlook
Calhoun has 14 carries in his two years in the NFL. He was drafted in the third round of the 2006 Draft with the expectation of figuring prominently in the running game. Injuries to the same knee in his first two years and a pass dominated offense made sure that role did not materialize. With a more conservative offense planned and only a rookie and a potential malcontent between him and playing time, Calhoun should have a more prominent role to play. Whether he lands on fantasy radars is debatable right now. Pay attention to his knee rehabilitation, and if he's fully fit maybe the NFL will finally see what the Lions drafted in 2006.

2007 Game Summaries
Week 1 - Not a significant factor, Calhoun posted five yards receiving and none rushing. His value is only in case of injury.
Week 2 - It was just one game, and a very tiny sample size, but Calhoun looked every bit as effective as Tatum Bell with the ball in his hands. Calhoun wasn't overly impressive, though he did have a very nice 17 yard scamper in the overtime that set up the eventual game-winning field goal. Calhoun's role increased as the game went on (and as Tatum Bell grew more and more ineffective).
Week 3 - Calhoun had one catch for 11 yards in the game.
Week 4 - Calhoun returned one kickoff 18 yards.
