2007 Game Summaries

Week 1 - Bulger completed 22 of 42 for 167 yards and one touchdown. He led a 15 play drive on their first possession ending with a three yard touchdown to Torry Holt. Bulger was only sacked once and was not intercepted. He was able to spread the ball around to eight different players during the game. Bulger was under a lot of pressure after losing his main offensive lineman. He will be highly interested in Pace's MRI to determine the severity of his injury.

Week 2 - Considering the makeshift offensive line the Rams had and the constant harassment of the 49er's defense, Bulger had an incredible game. He finished with 368 yards on 24 of 41 passing. He had one touchdown and no interceptions. This was especially impressive considering that he was sacked six times and was hit or hurried repeatedly. He was slow to get up many times and seemed to often be in visible pain. It was reported that he finished the game with sore ribs. Not having left tackle Orlando Pace for this game or for the rest of the year could make it more difficult for Bulger.

Week 3 - Bulger had a game to forget against Tampa Bay, completing 17 of 26 yards for 113 yards and three interceptions. The Buccaneers front seven only sacked Bulger one time, but got pressure on him for the majority of the game. Bulger also did not get much help from his receivers, who could not seem to get behind the Tampa Bay secondary for any big plays downfield.

Week 4 - Bulger's struggles continued against Dallas, as Bulger was pressured all game long by the Cowboys defense, and seemed like a sitting duck behind his battered offensive line. He just did not look like the quarterback you're accustomed to seeing when you watch Bulger play, as his throws lacked both zip and accuracy and you could see the injured ribs were taking a toll on him. To his credit, though, Bulger tried to play through the pain and lead his club, but Dallas was too much. He finished 11 of 24 for 114 yards, no touchdowns and a bad interception in the end zone before giving way to backup QB Gus Frerotte.

Week 6 - Bulger was active, and dressed as the backup QB. He did not play a snap.

Week 7 - Back in the saddle after a couple of weeks off to heal, Bulger went right back to playing the part of sacrificial lamb to the opposing teams pass rush. Let's get this straight, though: Bulger didn't look half bad, but his makeshift offensive line gave him no time to pass. He was sacked seven times on the day, and threw three interceptions as a result of the constant pressure. His main fault was that he continued to try and make something happen, which only resulted in more turnovers. Part way into the second half, he basically locked on to Torry Holt, his only reliable target this day.

Week 8 - Despite a thumb injury to his throwing hand in the third quarter, Bulger played a decent game. He connected with six different receivers and made a very impressive throw to Torry Holt for a 39 yard gain in the first quarter. Bulger was at his best in the first quarter, when Steven Jackson's rushing helped set up shorter yardage second and third downs. It was on these downs he looked toward Drew Bennett over the middle or would look downfield for Torry Holt or Isaac Bruce. The chemistry with Bennett was apparent from the first quarter, and despite some poor passes thrown his way, Bennett was able to haul in all the balls thrown his way. Bulger did have time to throw during the game, despite the multitude of injuries to the Rams offensive line. But the key to the success of the Rams' pass attack was the ability for Bulger to use Steven Jackson as a safety outlet for his passes. Once Jackson left the game, Bulger had to get more creative with his pass progressions and simply did not have the kind of time he needed to really set up his passes. Despite the injury to the thumb on his throwing hand, Bulger really didn't show much of degradation of his passing skills.

Week 10 - Bulger had all day to throw from the pocket. He found his receivers in stride and led his team to the first victory of the season.

For perhaps the first time this year, Bulger looked injury-free. He was accurate and his arm looked strong. The season is likely already in the can for the Rams but Bulger could be looking at a strong second half if he can build off this game and keep it rolling.

Week 11 - Bulger finished with a passer rating of 77.0 in leading the Rams to a second straight victory by completing 66% of his passes for an average of 4.8 yards per passing attempt. Bulger was under a heavy pass rush for most of the game, more so because of his offensive line than the 49ers defensive attack, and was sacked six times losing a total of fifty yards.

Week 12 - Bulger left the game with an apparent concussion (initially reported as "rib and back soreness"). He was three for five and had been intercepted, fumbled, and sacked.

Week 13 - Bulger was inactive due to injury (concussion)

Week 14 - Bulger was inactive due to injury (concussion).

Week 15 - Bulger was effective in the first half as he led the Rams' offense to 14 points over the first two quarters and had St. Louis within three points at the intermission. He finished the half nine of 15 for 100 yards and had a four yard touchdown throw to Torry Holt in the first quarter. Over the final two quarters, Bulger competed only 46% of his passes (11 for 24) for 119 yards and he was sacked three times. Both of his interceptions to S Atari Bigby came on deflected passes.

Week 16 - Bulger got off to a good start in this game as the Rams did a good job of mixing the run with the pass. He threw a little screen pass to RB Steven Jackson, who was able to make something from nothing and score from 12 yards out. Bulger was able to lead them back down the field and he threw his second touchdown pass to WR Isaac Bruce for 12 yards. Bulger played pretty well in the first half, even though the Steelers did a good job of getting pressure on him. He finished the first half nine for 17 for 101 and two touchdowns. He led St. Louis on an 81 yard drive on their first possession of the game and threw his third touchdown pass of the game to WR Drew Bennett on 23 yard completion. He threw a perfect pass to a well covered Bennett. Bulger did have two interceptions, one on the last play of the first half where they threw up a Hail Mary and another toward the end of the game on a desperation fourth and long.

Week 17 - Bulger was pressured all game long, and simply didn't have much time to throw. His touchdown pass came in the third quarter, as he was trying to rally the Rams' from an 18 point deficit when he hit little-used TE Joe Klopfenstein for a 36 yards touchdown. Bulger took several hits from the Cardinal blitz scheme, was sacked three times. He was often seen in pain after several hits. He threw two costly interceptions that ended potential scoring drives, one of which was returned for a touchdown.
