2007 Game Summaries
Week 1 - Bruce caught three passes for 20 yards. Bulger tried hitting him deep three times but they were all incomplete.
Week 2 - Bruce was Bulger's favorite target. Bulger looked for him early and often. He was targeted 13 times and pulled in eight of the passes for an incredible 145 yards. The only thing he missed out on was that he did not score any touchdowns during this contest.
Week 3 - Bruce struggled to find any openings in the Tampa Bay secondary, catching three passes for 14 yards on five targets. Bruce was injured in the second quarter on a play that ended up being nullified for a penalty, but did return later in the game and registered another catch in the fourth quarter. He fumbled the ball on the play he was injured on, and the ball was returned by Tampa Bay for a touchdown that was taken away for an offside penalty.
Week 4 - Bruce had a quiet game, catching just one pass for 24 yards on just three targets. Bruce was forced to leave the game with what seemed to be a hamstring injury, and the extent of the injury was not known immediately after the game.
Week 5 - Bruce did not play in this game because of a hamstring injury.
Week 6 - Bruce was inactive for the second week in a row (hamstring).
Week 7 - Bruce returned to action after missing two games with a hamstring injury. He made a couple of nice plays (one 31 yard catch and run early on), but was only targeted three times (two for receptions, one for an interception).
Week 8 - Bruce was the featured target for the Marc Bulger. Bruce was willing to go over the middle, or work the sideline routes during the game. He did not feature the blazing speed to beat the defenders off the line, but had enough strength to wrestle balls away or take the punishment from going over the middle of the field.
Week 10 - Bruce was active throughout the game for the Rams. He made a stellar diving catch for an 18 yard gain in the third quarter and few plays later caught a nine yard toss in the end zone.
Week 11 - Bruce's biggest plays against the 49ers came in extending multiple drives on long third downs of seven and fourteen yards to go. Bruce also helped to set up the opening touchdown with a fifteen yard catch to the three yard line.
Week 12 - Bruce topped Holt by two targets, which is significant if Bulger misses any time. Frerotte seemed to often look to Bruce first and then Holt. His touchdown early in the game was from Frerotte, not Bulger.
Week 13 - Bruce had a touchdown, and a handful of short gains. For the most part, he played the role of reliable possession receiver in this game.
Week 14 - Bruce went without a catch, as Brock Berlin repeatedly couldn't get the ball to him.
Week 15 - Bruce was targeted the most of any Rams' ball catchers with ten passes thrown in his direction. Despite the high number of balls going his way, he finished the day with only four receptions. Bruce's only reception of the first half went for 37 yards and ended up being his longest gain of the game. His three second half grabs went for a total 35 yards with the longest of those catches being a 20 yard reception in the fourth quarter.
Week 16 - Bruce caught a 12 yard touchdown pass from QB Marc Bulger in the second quarter and he did a good job of keeping his feet in bounds on the play. He had four catches for 44 yards in the first half as the Pittsburgh secondary did a good job of not giving up any big pass plays. Bruce caught an 18 yard pass on the Rams first drive of the second half. He would come back with a big play a few downs later when he caught a 21 yard pass up the middle of the field on a third and long play. Bruce finished as St. Louis' leading receiver and was targeted often in this game.
Week 17 - Bruce had only two catches for 39 yards. His longest was 22 yards.
