Outlook

The Jaguars are looking to give their franchise a makeover and with doing so they boldly took Blake Bortles as the 3rd overall pick in the 2014 draft. The pick was a bit of a surprise pick across the league but there was something there that the Jaguars believed in Bortles and knew he was their guy and stayed the course and selected him. This bodes well for his future and the pressure in Jacksonville is probably a lot less than what it might of been in some other markets for Bortles. He does not have to be forced into action immediately and can be brought into the system slowly and learn side by side from the likes of Chad Henne. Bortles has a lot of physical tools to like as he has the prototypical size for an NFL quarterback measuring in at 6'5" and 232 lbs. He also handles pressure in the pocket rather well and can stand in the pocket and deliver a pass without panic, which is something the Jaguars have not had too much experience with in the past. The Jaguars drafted a nice young WR duo to bring along with Bortles in Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson and all three should be able to grow and gain some chemistry together for years to come.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles unlikely to return in 2019 (Sat Dec 8, 01:31 AM) - Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles is expected to be released following the season, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Our View: Bortles should catch on elsewhere as a backup. The Jaguars were able to open up cap room by signing him to an extension last year, but they will carry 16.5 million in dead cap next year as they guaranteed part of his 2019 salary and spread out the 15 million dollar signing bonus hit over the duration of the three-year contract.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles benched (Mon Nov 26, 02:42 PM) - Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles has been benched in favor of Cody Kessler, according to head coach Doug Marrone.

Our View: So long as Kessler is healthy, he should be the starter for the rest of the regular season. After making it to the AFC Championship last year, the Jaguars have fallen apart and the play of their quarterback is largely to blame. They don't ask him to do much and Bortles has still been ineffective and mostly careless with the football. Back in February of this year, Bortles signed a three-year extension with $26.5 million guaranteed. There's still $16.5 million in dead money next year according to Spotrac.com.
