Best Case

A season ago, Lorenzo Booker was a third round draft choice by the rebuilding Miami Dolphins. After a slow start including a failed stint as the Dolphins returner, Booker saw significant playing time late in the year and showed a combination of good vision (4.5 YPC) and above average receiving skills (28 catches in the final five games). On draft day this April, the Dolphins traded Booker to the Eagles for a fourth round draft pick. Based on comments by Andy Reid, it's possible Booker could be a big part of the offense, perhaps lining up as a receiver out of the slot at times. In the best case scenario, Booker could catch 40-50 passes and spell Westbrook for a few series each game.

Worst Case

It's curious that a team which finished 1-15 would be so eager to part ways with a young contributor, and Booker hasn't really proven anything yet other than an ability to catch some balls out of the flat. Many an Eagles backup RB has fallen out of favor quickly (e.g., Ryan Moats, Bruce Perry), and Booker could be little more than a special team player if he has a bad camp.

Outlook

The Eagles didn't give up a fourth round pick for nothing. They clearly feel Booker is ideally suited for their pass-happy offense and, with the intent to not overwork Westbrook, Booker could see 10 to 12 touches a game. In deep leagues that reward points per reception, he could be worth a roster spot in that event.

2007 Game Summaries

Week 13 - Booker was the main pass catching threat out of the backfield as he saw seven total targets, grabbing six of them for 63 yards. He also added a six yard gain on his only rushing attempt.

Week 14 - Booker ran the ball four times for 13 yards. His long gain went for seven yards. Booker was used primarily in the passing game and grabbed six passes for 34 yards.

Week 15 - Booker got more than his usual action in the game, as he carried the ball when Samkon Gado was temporarily out of the game with an injury. He also got several passing targets as a receiver out of the backfield, and finished third on the team in receiving yards while placing second in receptions.

Week 16 - Booker ran fairly well for Miami in the loss but the quick deficit forced Miami to focus on their meager passing game early.

Week 17 - Booker had three carries for only one yard and two catches for six yards in the first half. He did have a nice run after the catch on a ball thrown to him out of the flat for an 18 yard gain. He caught a lot balls late in the game, and finished with seven catches for 54 yards in the game.
